I just wanted to acknowledge that I crashed out at a few people here in this thread yesterday and called some of y’all fatphobic and liberals and was generally an enormous jackass, and I’m sorry about my conduct.

OP, I see a lot of fatphobia in the comments from people who think it’s okay to use fatness as an insult because they think it’s a moral failing.

I also see a lack of political aptitude in what you’re saying. You need to think about the consequences of what you say. You need to be thinking about how to prevent a Trump dictatorship. We’re going to have a dictatorship if you help the billionaires make the Dems lose. I don’t want a dictatorship because I’m not an accelerationist.

blud is gonna crash out at toddler calling them or someone else fat and stinky with that “fatphobic” point lmao

But seriously, there certainly is a degree of classism and elitism - I remember there was a quite popular post after Trump got elected that basically showed how if people with higher education only were allowed to vote, then Kamala would have won, and the comments went how you’d expect them to go. The sentiment can still be found today in lib news threads, though they are much rarer since Republicans are no longer the hot topic and now it’s ICE or whatever.

Though to be fair, it probably has less to do with them hating the poor, obese or people who didn’t go for education for any reason and it’s just a product of the team sports politics bullshit the vast majority are knee deep in. Gotta cheer your side and throw any insult you can think of at the other!

Never said fatphobia isn’t an issue - it very much is, and it either stems from or gets heavily amplified by the bourgeois class society we live in. After all, a worker that is overweight might not be as productive, might not fit certain positions and therefore is turned into a moralization or demonization without much nuance. Bring in nationalism and it’s an Ubermensch situation.

That being said, this team sport shit slinging at the other side thing is most likely not that deep and is just a competition to see who can say more bad words at the other side with 0 thought

Sure, let’s play ball with your strawman argument that democrats are “fatphobic”and classist. Firstly, I guess it’s a good thing I’m much farther left than democrats, but I guess you could consider me one for this moment.

From my understanding, the median Republican is poorer than the median Democrat. Most Democratic states have a minimum wage that’s much higher than Republican states and are more likely to get a higher education, meaning they can get even higher paying jobs later on in life.

Now, is this a bad thing? Yes! Is it their fault? No! So I’m not gonna shun them for it.

However, this does mean republicans have to buy cheaper, unhealthier food, which may lead to a higher obesity rate, or as you call it, being “fat”.

Is it a bad thing to be obese? That’s mostly subjective, there’s many reasons one can be obese. But there are always objective health complications that run along side obesity. To name a few: Lower life span, higher risk of heart disease, lower quality of life.

I’ve seen first hand how obesity affects people and their families. My grandfather passed away from heart failure pretty early on, and my uncle nearly lost his foot because he refused to get treatment for diabetes.

So, is it a bad thing to be obese? Not necessarily, but it’s usually an indicator of actual bad things. Is it a bad thing to do nothing about your obesity? Absolutely.

In reality however, these “middle class white democrats” you speak of that go around insulting people by calling them poor and fat don’t exist, and if they do, they’re a very small minority. You are just as hateful and ignorant as the people you’ve made up to fit your world view.

If you can get me a good source for your information, then please do! I encourage you to research this and share your results! Maybe you’ll even be able to change my mind about this.

I meaaan… all this can be true and “progressives” can still end up doing a lot of the classist ableist etc that they say is not okay just because it’s someone they don’t like. For example “Trump has a small dick!” Something you would hear in the manosphere, what does that have to do with him being a terrible person? “Ben Shapiro is short lol!!! Gnome!” “Women are repulsed by Republicans.” Ok? So are most normal humans? It’s like the flip side of “women love this!” Which is a bit weird to say.

For fat phobia, I think it’s maybe imprecision in the words. We know from psychology it doesn’t help shaming people for their flaws. We shouldn’t say it’s an okay thing, but saying omg this dude is a fat loser (about a republican) can be pretty hurtful for the chill person who feels like a loser because they’re fat. Society right now is in a place where being obese is extremely easy and being healthy is not, like extremely addictive food literally designed to keep you hooked, car-centric design, lots of unnecessary stress and division, and some people just have health problems like chronic pain or metabolic misfunction. A lot of these are used as excuses, and I think if someone is overweight and they say well what can I do society is messed up, that’s not right. But it’s so easy to get into bad habits or be addicted to food, that I don’t see it as a huge moral failing anymore, just like hey how do we help you stop this thing that’s harming you.

If you can get me an actual source against any of my statements, then I might reconsider. But until then, anything that is said by you is a strawman argument. If there is no evidence for an argument, that is, by DEFINITION, a strawman argument.

Edit: just saw your updated response, obviously you don’t care enough to find out whether or not the shit you’re pulling out of your ass is actually true

https://www.brookings.edu/articles/america-has-two-economies-and-theyre-diverging-fast/ here’s a link to an article about the increasing income rates for democratic households over 10 years. And here’s a US government website discussing the many health risks of obesity. Those are the only real claims I made, everything else is from my experience. I have never met a single person who has used poor as an insult, and fat is really fucking uncommon.

PS. it is so insanely moronic to think you can just “dismiss” someone without any evidence. I really do feel bad for you, you’ve made so many strawman arguments about me being “fatphobic” when I explicitly stated that I don’t think fat = bad. I used to be moderately obese, I was 230 for a little while as a teenager, and then I learned about the side effects of obesity in school and worked to drop weight down to 180. Even now I’d consider myself a bit overweight, but do I think obese people are “bad”? No! And if you think I did, then you’re an idiotic motherfucker who can’t read any commentary without thinking it’s an insult to yourself.
