I’m vegetarian and I often feel like this at a restaurant.

The only time it is a problem is in Italy, when saying “no thanks” to the waiter’s magical special of the day is an insult to his family’s honor. I don’t dare say that I’m a vegetarian in Italy though, or they will decide to skip the delicious pasta or gnocchi or risotto or pizza or whatever and bring me a plate of vegetables. 😅

Same as a Vegetarian, now Vegan, the staff should first ask if there are dietary restrictions. Some staff have a long spiel, with no pauses, as they describe how the meats are prepared. At the end they are surprised when they ask if we’d like one of those menu items. and say No.

Both my Italian stepmom and my mom, don’t quite get veganism. My mom is like I know you didn’t want eggs last time so I’ve bought yogurt for you. My stepmom asks if I want paramesan cheese in the vegan lentil soup she made.
