I just wanted to say thanks to anyone who may have donated. Again you have no idea how much it means. Not gonna spam this message all day today, don’t worry, but thank you to those that did… Thank you so so much. And to anyone who upvoted or commented or gave well wishes. It means the entire world to me right now.

I don’t really care for the song myself, but I think you are not taking into account the world that was released into.
Women weren’t a dominant force in hip hop, or pop, at that time, most of the mainstream popular stuff was bragging and violence. I think this song was an attempt to fit into that genre, while at the same time take a shot at the gigolo life style that was frequently on display in so much media of the time. A stub wasn’t someone who didn’t have anything, they were someone who never even tried to be someone. They were the type that tried to impress you with the car they were in… a car that wasn’t even theirs…

I kind of realized this halfway when writing my reply but I gave up and just ended going with what I started writing. lol

I think you’re right. The times the song was written in are different than the times now and so a lot of the context and influence came from different things. I just can’t help but hear the lyrics and say “well, I don’t own a car or a house”. Idk. Just can’t get past that.

I fully understand, some songs hit you weird even if they didn’t mean to.
I really enjoyed listening to Led Zeppelin’s Gallows Pole until someone told me that the hangman sleeps with the guy’s sister, but then hangs him and the sister.
At some point I reread the lyrics and did some research, and now I think her “gallows pole” is the hangman’s dick, but still, I spent years thinking that the song was even darker than it really was, and now, even though I know it’s not correct, I can’t help but feel really uncomfortable when listening to it.
And it is not like scrubs is some masterpiece that needs to be listened to anyway.

Also, the inability to meet your goals doesn’t make you a loser any more than meeting them makes you a winner. Keep striving for your goals dude, even if life only ever gives you shit sandwiches, the desire to move forward and be better is what makes someone a worthwhile person.
