    That union is precisely what the fasces represented for them. “Corporatism” implies a state subservient to corporations, “fascism” implies a bond through ideology and goals. Moreover, the fasces tied Italy to its Roman past, which was deeply important to Italian fascists - they wanted to Make Italy Great Again, and in order for that to work, there has to be a historical myth to draw from. They had Rome, Germany had the Reich, MAGA has the 1950s, Spain… im actually not sure about their historical myth, im guessing conquistador colonialism?

    Mussolini wasn’t the super clever guy he thought he was. Go figure.

      Continuing the analogy, modern russia has the Soviet Union.

      The Soviets themselves, though, flipped the historical myth around and instead tied their ideology to the future of communism, which is surely just around the corner, just gotta work for the Party extra hard and not ask any questions, comrade!

      I’m actually curious about similar movements in East Asia, now.
