I’ve got a rejection notice after I was hired by the very same company. The reason was that someone forgot to mark the application as accepted, so the system automatically sent the rejection mail. That was confusing at first, but also funny.

The exact same thing happened to me, just a little differently. When I accepted the offer, the system automatically removed me from the other application and sent a generic rejection email. Scared the shit out of me.

Thank you for your resume. We aren’t hiring, but we sold your private information to a data broker for 5¢.

There is a company right by my house, that I could get to in 5 minutes, and I wanted SO BAD to work there. I apllied for about 3 or 4 different times and never even got an interview. I ask myself why since I’m very experienced and was more than perfect for a couple of jobs there that were specific enough. During this unemployment time I was having 1 interview a day at least, and had the opportunity to say no to a couple of offers. So I never got the why

You seldomly do get the reason. Even if you’re asking. Because companies don’t want to provide ground for lawsuits. The reasons for rejection can be highly arbitrary and therefore not be justified. Even on a legal basis. So they won’t tell.

These application process dances are usually a highly defect and outdated approach to hiring anyway.

Can confirm. On the flip side, I did get an interview once, and I asked them why they reached out to me and it was because of some random part time job I held struck their fancy. All things being equal, there is no reason why you get an interview or not, it’s no different than a slot machine.

I once applied to a job at microsoft, and got a rejection email from them, on their own email platform, from 5 minutes in the future.
