Many young Israelis who came of age during a wave of violence known as the second Palestinian intifada or during five successive Gaza wars have become more hawkish and security minded. Israel’s population is also growing more religious, with nearly 25 percent of Israelis on track to be ultra-Orthodox by 2050.

Article ignores that swing is due to immigration…

Ultra orthodox are moving there because they agree with the current government, and want to expand borders because they get land for free. And all of the far right abrahamic religious encourage a shit ton of kids.

That’s why Israel will always say every other country is antisemitic and unsafe, they want all the fear driven far right to move to Israel and vote in their elections, because they’ll vote for the current government.

If they’re ever allowed to vote again that is, Israel hasnt had a major election since November of 2022, and they’re not having one this year either.

So what you’re saying is; Jewish families won’t ever have to deal with that uncle again if we bomb it back to the iron age?

It would be antisemitic to not.

Trying to balance his longstanding affection for Israel and his outrage for what was happening in Gaza was difficult

The fear of antisemitism is well founded, but the protests against the “war” (butchery) should not be muffled by them. They are two separate if intertwined discourses.

It already is; the expansion of fascism in Israel is almost completely fueled by their oppression (and, as of October 7th, genocide) of Palestinians.
