This isn’t a defense of what happened at Uvalde. I am just pointing out that the meme chose the one guy who physically tried to do something to use as the poster child for their inaction. I am sure if we could use a time machine to see his whole career he did a bunch of terrible shit that ruined people’s lives when her either didn’t have too, or was legally barred from doing so, but got away with it because he is the system’s enforcer.

I mean its practically a punisher origin story. they are the one “good” cop on the force, and maybe not, maybe not perfectly so. misplaced sensibilities, class identity, etc. build them flawed. then its Uvalde. but this time its not some black or brown kid suffering as a consequence of the system you help prop up. its your wife and child, the actually good person in society, and a doe-eyed innocent child. and the cops around you, they won’t let you save her. they wont let you redeem yourself. they prevent you from being even the pretend hero society projects onto you. The shots are ringing out and you can hear their screams, and the system has you anchored to the ground to protect itself.

But is the fact he only wanted to do something because the current situation directly impacted him? As though if his wife didn’t work there he’d be sitting back laughing at the situation regardless?
Well, we can never know that. As my opinion goes for him being a cop, that is somewhere in this thread, I am just pointing out that this particular meme, calling out police inaction, makes the poster child the only cop that tried. That was just the whole point.
