I remember a YouTube channel with some folks drop testing a bunch of phones using a drone - and some Motorola smartphone with a polymer display (IIRC) survived a much bigger drop than the 3310 did.
I think the 3310 got its reputation because it was ubiquitous and at the same time somewhat tough - but it’s nowhere near as tough as say some Ericssons before it or some Siemens models after. Maybe this is also backed by the fact that phones got progressively more brittle after that.
Naturally people reach for the low hanging fruit to make a joke.
