The lowercase l is a major failure of the alphabet. Sans serif font makes it worse but having l and I matching was a mistake.

That was not a problem when people wrote in cursive. I think this flaw is to be blamed on the printing press.

Yesterday a guy did the spongebob sarcasm capitalization on “wall of text” and wrote “Fine, I’ll summarize the scary ‘wAlL oF tExT’ for everyone.”

And just, damn. “wail of text” really summarizes nicely how I feel about long, padded articles with tons of popup and banner ads, along with “disable your adblocker” and robot verification tests.

It doesn’t show anything of the sort. They would somehow slab an LLM AI interface even on HDD enclosures if they could and call it a “smart enclosure” and it would be nothing but a surveillance entshittification central.

There is a very clear reason why there is a backlash against everything called AI, it is because almost all of it is predatory surveillance entshittification projects forced upon consumers who never asked for it.

The “hur dur AI has always been around” is a fallacy which does not adress the actual problem.

Things like deepl were previously called »machine learning« or »deep learning« and are now under the »AI« umbrella too. Doesn’t change that it’s useful and has been since long before the current AI trend.
