Looks like it’s time to carry a dummy phone with you if you decide to visit the US. Not really sure why any non-citizens would want to do that at this point though.
I’m not even sure why would they even need to see your phone.
All these idiots use cloud, just requesting data from iOS/google is sufficient in most cases. I think they don’t even have to ask, they gotta have direct api access.
But The Apple documentation (https://support.apple.com/en-us/127274) mentions that your iCloud gets synced between both devices, so now I’m confused what the purpose of this is
Two devices running iOS 27 or later that are:
Connected to Wi-Fi
Sharing the same Apple Account
Using Messages in iCloud to ensure messages sync
Signed into FaceTime and iMessage with the same Apple Account
An eSIM from a carrier that supports iPhone Handoff:
USA: T-Mobile

The decision includes citizens, anyone within 100 miles from an international airport, border, or national waterway.
There is a lot more reasons not to do that than there are reasons to go there.

Interestingly, iOS 27 has a new “2 phones can share 1 number and you can swap between them” which didn’t seem to make a lot of sense.

Uncle Sam could always be that 2nd phone, the network is ridiculously insecure. It’s so well-known, the spooks didn’t even stop Veritasium from making a video on it. Hell, it doesn’t take a state-level actor either, it takes a motivated individual and that’s pretty much all.
