Total users are huge now.

There are many websites out there that pull data from the fediverse. So take that with a grain of salt. But anecdotally I am seeing a small rise in people using the various platforms as each get more mature and servers somewhat stabilize.

    Well, an alternative explanation would be LLM agent accounts, which started to appear on the fediverse around the time the above graph started to go up.

    Here on Lemmy they are a bit delayed and only started to sign up in larger quantities in the last 2-3 months.

        Yes, we have admin approval on our instance and get a few such registrations per week these days. Luckily right now the registrations openly say that it is an LLM agent that operates the account, but that is probably just the tip of the iceberg.
