Though the majority of its runtime has been in the 21st century, it initially aired in September of 1998 (British version was back in '88). Every other entry on this list starts at 2000 or later.

This is a pretty good list, that I largely agree with. IF it were unordered. Ordered the way it is, it is an abomination.

This is certainly a top-quality shitpost. I’ll give you my upvote for that.
Thumbs up for Reservation Dogs, but I’d have rated it higher.
So many shows are way too high on the list. 30 rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Atlanta, The Office (US), Girls… all really good shows but definitely not top 20. It’s stupid to argue if a show is top 40 of top 70 but it’s fairly easy to tell if a show is “one of the best of the century” and those are not. Adolescence, True Detective, Band of Brothers or Black Mirror set new standards. Those shows were good but far from “best”.
Key and Peele rated higher than Chappelle show? What are we even doing here?

All time best show is Friends, everybody knows it.

Insane list. Look at the IMDB Top 250 filtered by “after 2000” and you’ll notice the obvious omissions:
- Avatar: The Last Airbender at number 6
- Attack on Titan at number 16
- Firefly at number 39
- Taskmaster at number 43
These are just a couple examples in different categories. Anime fans immediately noticed that no anime made the list at all, despite 10 being in the IMDB top 100. Western animation fans might have seen that Bojack Horseman made the list, but Avatar didn’t (or if the editor filtered for “adult animation”, Rick and Morty (#22) didn’t). There’s really no excuse for these, there is no consistent rule that would exclude any of these shows. NYT readers must live in the dark timeline where fun is outlawed and Taskmaster was cancelled after one series.
I don’t get why would they skip Avatar on this list.
