A two-panel meme.
The top panel shows an NPC character in front of a red “TED” sign saying “organise your time or smth”.
The bottom panel shows a crowd of NPC characters responding with a speech bubble that reads “OMG, life changing”.

That’s completely untrue. If anything, regular TED provides some expenses beyond travel stipend (meals etc), but do not pay for speaking. Neither TED nor TEDx do, and if anything you have it backwards.
Provide a source, because I am certain you pulled that out of your ass.
For TED proper, speakers can receive more than just travel and lodging. TED currently says it also provides a small stipend to offset expenses or financial impact from preparing for and attending the conference. It is explicitly not a speaking fee or honorarium. Source
For TEDx, the rule is much harder: no speaker fee at all. Organizers can cover travel, hotel, meals, etc., but TED explicitly prohibits paying speakers. Source
There have been folks paid by separate programs to do TED talks. But TED didn’t pay them or the folks who paid them. They’re an agnostic platform when it comes to financing.
