I only use a regular opinel as a knife because of my experience with spring driven ones. I’m not joking the soft blade release and the stop mechanism make me like this thing a lot more than I thought

And they cost next to nothing for a good quality knife.

Simplicity is a big deal with functional tools. I do have a mini swiss knife and I disassembled a cabinet with that, lacking any other tool at the moment, but it has a foul dull blade that isn’t a blade. But among foldable knives these are certainly one of the best, yes.

Almost sliced the tip off my thumb while whittling. Got the same compliment. AND they complimented my pain tolerance, no oxy for me, just some local anaesthetic for the stitches. Little did they know that was just the nerve damage, it’s still a bit numb a year later.

one of the reasons why sharp knives are safer than dull knives generally

though that wisdom is more applicable to cooking

I’ve always thought that dull knives are more dangerous because you have to put a lot more force to cut something, and when it suddenly does, all that force could go wildly.

That too, honestly thats the more significant reason. Shaper knives give cleaner cuts which heal easier was the point i was making, but yeah the bigger reason is that you have much better control with a sharp knife and need way less force.

Also, a good sharp knife will cut with chopping push down. A less sharp knife requires a slicing move.

It’s really hard to cut yourself with a chopping motion .

Not according to my partner’s family! I sharpened one of the kitchen knives and was told it was too sharp. I had grown bored of having to saw through onion skins

Its maths so kinda 😅 the sign of true mastery over a theorem is finding the least convoluted way to prove it.

A sword shouldn’t be as sharp as a knife though as the edge will nick very easily.
