Ah yes, the Y2K scare, one of the more overblown social panics.
No one was trying to claim that Hexbear and Lemmygrad are Lemmy.ml. This is one of the most embarrassing and pathetic attempts at avoidance by a member of Piefed staff I’ve ever seen.
The person alleged that all 3 instances were blocked, and the first two absolutely are. But instead of briefly clarifying about the one that isn’t while still addressing the two that are defederated by default, you instead chose to double down on the one that wasn’t to try and devalidate the argument when you know it is actually in large part true, 2/3 of the instances listed are actually blocked and no one said hexbear and lemmygrad were lemmy.ml.
Yeah I’m glad I never signed up there. Actually for a while I did leave Lemmy completely because I thought that piefed was going to take over the Fediverse and make it shitty like Reddit. Still not entirely convinced that won’t happen.

Question, why? What’s so significant about 2099?
It’s great and for most stuff out there works very well, though it does have a few undocumented functions left that still trip some software up, which is why its good to have the originals in a working state.
But Ruffle is improving greatly so hopefully those issues will be solved soon.
Seems like his attempt backfired hard. As expected.
I hope people put in the effort to patch out whatever time bombs Adobe puts into it like people did with Flash player.
Although unlike with Flash player, there’s probably not going to be a China version that continues to produce updates for it.
People use the term casually and incorrectly to refer to any software not installed from the Play Store, which ultimately reinforces Play store as a sort of default which undermines the open landscape of Android in the public consciousness.
That’s part of why they act the way they do, they’re trying to seem tough but deep down they’re scared shitless.
