Canada@lemmy.ca•US warns they will send fighter jets into Canadian airspace if F-35 deal doesn’t go through | The Independent
2·12 days agoNot sure. These are the only type of its kind. It has capabilities other jets don’t have and they work together with other F35s and defense systems.

Canada@lemmy.ca•US warns they will send fighter jets into Canadian airspace if F-35 deal doesn’t go through | The Independent
22·13 days agoI know this US ambassador is an a-hole, and he tends to shoot his mouth like Trump. However. After reading the article, it isn’t as bad as the headline implies. Sending their jets isn’t as a threat, but what the ambassador is saying is that more F-35s are needed to fill in whatever security roles it plays in their defensive strategy if Canada buys something else. In the event of some other jets we’re using, they would have to alter NORAD in order to allow more US F-35 jets to patrol the skies over Canada.

4·2 months agoI absolutely agree with you there. We need immigration, but it has to be controlled so that wages can climb to a reasonable level.

304·3 months agoAOC is right, if AI bubble burst, companies shouldn’t be bailed out. I want to remind people that not ALL bubble bursts have resulted in bail outs. When the dot-com burst, there were no bailouts. There was a short recession of 8 months, and the rest of the world continued on in its aftermath. When the commodities bubble burst, in the 2000s there was no bail out. When the housing bubble burst, there was bailout because banks had lent too much money into the housing bubble. If banks fail, there would be bank runs, and that contagion would have spread everywhere and the entire financial system would have collapsed. Currently, there are no bank debts nor bonds being issued to spend billions on AI data centers. The danger will be when leverage is used to fund these trillion-dollar outlays. Currently there is very little debt tied to AI bubble. Most of the AI spending is coming from the humongous tech companies with loads of cash on hand and with fat profit margins who are plowing it all into AI data centers. When it does go bust, their valuations will deflate but the business will still remain. Watch for use of leverage or debt in AI. Once it enters the equation, that’s where the systemic risk will begin to tick up.

191·4 months agoUS immigration law declares inadmissible those who have “been a member of or affiliated with the Communist or any other totalitarian party.” The current form asks would-be citizens to disclose if they have ever been associated “in any way” with “any Communist or totalitarian party anywhere in the world.”
They want to deport former communists or affiliates of communist parties? Let’s start at the White House!

It absolutely is. Time to put them on trial!
