Not many cars are worth that.

Ugh. Cheaper to start with one half-fixed up than deal with that.

Aw, poor car. Probably cost too much to rebuild.

‘72 Bronco. Wish I still had it. They go for stupid money these days.

That’s the point. This is three on the tree. Not an automatic column shifter.

I’m old enough to have owned a car with one of these:

It’s kinda metal, every bit as metal as it is unusual.

What moral high ground? Did he have any at all to start?
Lol, yeah. That’s the point of the movies s/he cited, the opposite of what s/he was trying to accomplish.
What did you expect?

I’d say that social media platforms opened that door a long time a go. A bunch of people telling others what’s cool, what “truth” is being hidden from you, click here for the “fact” you won’t believe, how to do anything but actually think critically about what you’re presented with. People search social media for answers before they look at wikipedia, forget considering a summary from actual scientific sites.
Coupled with algorithms pushing tailored engagement bait over boring facts and AI just wraps it all up in a top search result shoehorned above 10 “Sponsored” links and SEO garbage, there’s no room for boring old critical thought and truth anymore.
I’m in my basement, with collected 80’s Robotech and Transformers toys, a 3D printer, a self-built watercooled gaming PC, a linux PC, boxes of decades of tech junk, a printed Darth Vader helmet I’m trying to finish so maybe I can go to a ‘con suited up, a backup of all of my favorite movies like Better off Dead and Princess Bride…. And I’m on Lemmy.
Yeah. Total jock.
But go ahead and make up whatever suits you.
I’m gen X. I’ve seen them all. FWIW, the nerds usually emerge victorious.

Pardon me for assuming you were here on social media for a conversation. At least you didn’t LMGTFY me.
There’s no centuries-long systemic oppression and denigration of “nerds”, blackface is a terrible word choice.

It certainly was more egalitarian. Geocities or MySpace were kinda examples. Anyone could make their own space, often for free.
Most content today is crap, and the rest is someone stealing or reacting to that crap, ad nauseam. Though TBF if anyone remembers the early days of youtube or other platforms it was full of stupid stuff too, but it was “lookit me, lol!” for likes rather than ad-riddled garbage that somehow people expect to be taken seriously for.
Goatse or 2g1c was our clickbait, and nobody tried to sell you anything or make it any more than it was. It was garbage and we knew it.
So much hate for a show that was never meant to be a cinematic masterpiece of comedy? I don’t get it. It’s not supposed to be deep. I watched it for a while, it was funny in its dumb way, and then it just didn’t go anywhere so I quit watching. It was fun for a while. No need for the hate.
Edit: wow. Triggered some people who want to equate themselves to centuries-long oppressed minorities and slaves, over a TV show. Know what? Oppressed minorities will still be oppressed tomorrow, shot by cops, profiled, and live with systemic racism. You get to change the channel. Get over yourselves.

I feel the opposite. I’m “C-64 dial up BBS” years old. I’m far, far more concerned with the internet today. It’s become destructive on so many levels. The corporatocracy takeover, the enstupidification, AI, troll farms, bots, outright lies, echo chambers willfully and ignorantly forming realities outside of objective truth…
The modern internet is an awful conflagration that everyone is trying to manipulate and control while throwing more fuel on it in an attempt to profit from it.
Goatse is nothing compared the dumpster fire that’s happening.
I’m not fine with it at all.

There’s that ~30% again that will lie their asses off for their golden calf.
The OG one.
