If it makes you feel any better, not all Latinos are Mexican, and even Mexicans can’t accurately recognize other Mexicans. I’m descended from Sicilians, so I’m seasonally dark and my dad was dark AF*. When we lived in California, we were regularly spoken to in Spanish by Mexicans and other Latinos who were surprised that we didn’t speak Spanish and in fact were the whitest dark people they had ever met.

*Fun Fact: my paternal grandfather was an asshole and as racist as he was dark (very). Jokes on him - I got my whole genome sequenced and we have a ton of gene variations strongly correlated with African populations. I’m around 25% African by gene frequency distribution, about 10% North and about 15% sub-Saharan African. I’m at least 15% “black”. Hah! Fuck you, Grandpa!

It’s so arbitrary. I’m “white” and I’m darker than most of the people there by early June. It’d be year round if not for living so far north.

Plus that was wholesome AF for a halftime show. It preemptively hit on so many potential criticisms that racism or prudishness are about the only two reasons left to criticize it.

Emotional ambivalence isn’t only normal, it’s healthy. I love my partner for being my friend and supporter, but have also felt genuine hatred due to them not doing the work necessary to be a good spouse, leading to us separating.

The trauma bond is a bit different, though. It’s unhealthy ambivalence, where even the positive feelings are ultimately rooted in strongly negative behavior. I had one with my father, so I get it.

It’s the whole Nostradamus effect. Throw out enough bullshit and eventually something will be correct.

I fully expect personal computers to be phased out in favor of a remote-access, subscription model. AI popping would leave these big data centers with massive computational power available for use, plus it’s the easiest way to track literally everything you do on your system.

I prefer working at home. I’ve got the home part currently, but not so much the working.

I had no idea! I worked IT in the early 2000s and I absolutely hated Dell computers. Nothing broke faster and more often than the Dell desktops.

I’ve always wanted to start a business like this. “Generic Brand” household goods. Not fancy, just solidly functional base models but with modular upgradability. Wish you bought the WiFi capable washer? Buy the module for $30. Everything would be fully user serviceable and upgradable (within reason), so parts sales ensure sustained income once market saturation is reached.

I need to start faking computer illiteracy or at least downplaying my level of literacy. Employers notice how quickly I get computer-related tasks done, but then they expect that as my norm while my coworkers are struggling to use any device without a touch screen.

The last new hire I trained was in his mid-twenties and lacked basic tech literacy outside of the iPhone. I asked him to write up a quick protocol using a template I sent him. He typed the text of the Outlook file preview into notepad and went from there. I was baffled.

As a microbiologist, 3 cm is like the next county over. The particle physicist gets to add a few orders of magnitude to that.

Plus most people have no combat training. I can handle aggressive drivers no problem. If masked thugs rush me with drawn weapons, I will very effectively shit myself at best, run hard at worst

The people it benefits would have to decide to not benefit from it anymore.

So not likely unless the alternative is even worse.
