To be clear I’m not speculating on something that could potentially be cool, this already exists and is improving
ok but AI compression is legitimately a thing that has potential because of how extreme the size reduction could be. But yeah it’s definitely no lossless format lol

21·1 month agoYes, actually I do expect reparations (“free handouts”) and free asylum for climate refugees.
Maybe you should ask why Australia decided to wrangle Tuvalus independence instead of just making a better offer. And also, to ask yourself for whom exactly this deal is “the best option”. Not the majority of the Tuvaluan population.

3·1 month agoSo you’re conveniently ignoring the protectorate status? And the fact that Tuvalu doesn’t really have another choice? And that this is just one in a long line of “anti-China deals” Australia is forcing on its island neighbors?

8·1 month agoTuvalu is now obliged to let Australia oversee its foreign policy. In exchange, Australia is “generously” allowing a number of Tuvaluans per year to flee climate disaster and settle in Australia. The climate disaster that Australia as a coal giant has no interest in stopping, or better yet, compensate the island nations for instead of slowly absorbing their governments and populations

15·1 month agoWhat Australia is doing to Tuvalu for example is also completely unforgivable. Holding a country in a precarious situation hostage is not the lesson we should have learned after China expanded its influence in the pacific
fuuuck what book is this again?
what’s the argument against locally hosted AI? lile seriously man I have issues with plagiarism, innacurate information and social dependency, but even with all that AI isn’t of the devil. Learn to have nuance

174·1 month agoHey, I don’t know you and I don’t know how much you depend on the Internet for your social safety net, but it might be good to take this as a cue to step back from social media a bit, at least the discussion of politics
yeah that’s true lol. I have a backlog of tumblr screenshots that I found funny or thought provoking from before I joined Lemmy. I’m probably gonna go through those on !curatedtumblr@sh.itjust.works and !tumblr@lemmy.world (those are the biggest right?)

Yo is that the same guy from your last post
The old testament is by definition also part of the christian bible lol. I get what you mean, there’s also a book called the jewish bible, but clearly that’s not what they meant
God I love social progress. Looking forward to when I can frown at how puritan the 2000-2030s were
I can’t remember the title but that’s pretty much the same plot as the first english romance novel ever written.
It “makes sense” considering the honor-shame society the story was created for. A pure, pious woman is pitted against a shameful, violent man. The central motif is the radiant woman purifying the shameful man who converts (to Christianity) and courts the woman according to social norms instead of violently raping her. This is framed as a good ending because his shame is removed.
If you value innocence over honor this is completely incomprehensible. The guilt is still there, it was never accounted for.
Edit: Oh, and Marry-your-rapist-laws were and are still more common than you might know. Even if countries that don’t have one, individual courts may still decide that way.

Technology@lemmy.world•Wikimedia Will Not Voluntarily Recognize Union a Supermajority of Its Workers WantEnglish
27·1 month agoWell you have to wonder if at a support so high Wikimedia couldn’t skip the “fight and win” stage to earn some goodwill which might get them more favourable terms. In open confrontation, everyone loses. Takes energy away from everything else and generates a ton of bad publicity.
Post text be like “we’re worried kittenz may be a tankie” meanwhile the attached screenshots are all “I’m an unironic tankie I use that word to describe myself I’m not a tankie but I love the USSR I think using tanks to crush dissent is good”
Yeah I think you maybe did the right thing
I’m afraid of posting my favorite tumblr screenshots because I’m scared people won’t give a shit and Jessica is here with the 2k note oneliners. I may be stupid
HARDDDDDD :o
