  • There are more important reasons we need to oppose the “lesser evil.” I simply have no faith that they can defeat the fascists in their current state, which means we need to at least shape them up before the next chance they have to take power. Unless they become more competent and politically capable, they might not be able to capitalize on Trump’s inevitable death, nor will they be able to maintain power for long if they make the same mistakes as Biden.

The only way they will not be weak and useless is if there is a capable left wing they need to contend with. It’s why they oppose Mamdani more strongly than Trump; they would no longer have a solid monopoly on progressives, and would need to share capitulate to maintain an alliance.

  • The disaster is here. The dictator is here. There will not be a shred of liberal democracy until the king is dead, as that is the only way he’ll leave office. All efforts need to focus on hitting the ground running in rebuilding a functional system once the fascists fumble without their lynchpin, and that requires people better than fascist wannabes like Newsom or weaklings like Schumer. It needs people willing to set capital aside in favor of your precious rule of law, and that is not most of the Democratic party right now.

We cannot fix useless politicians, only replace them building upwards from a local level. Any strategy that expects us to rely on the right of the party is doomed. If the strategy isn’t bold and questioning of the party, it will never work.

  • You know what I hate the most about tankies? They’re so darn similar to liberals. They both have aspirational ideologies that never live up to their virtues, defaulting to geopolitical realism at the drop of a hat. They whole heartedly believe you can only support the least evil of the empires, and that anything else is naive weakness.

Lenin’s ideology was not a scroll of truth, but the marching orders for a more modernized Russian empire. They regularly engaged in systematic genocide, moving their own people around to increase the loyalty supposedly independent states would have to the imperial core. Too bad they didn’t go for absolute destruction of dissent like the Americans did.

Imperialism is the original societal sin, one that predates capitalism by millennia. If anything, capitalism is an outgrowth of that urge; one which tosses life aside in favor of power.

  • The people on the flotilla are the ones who said they saw the drone, while they were anchored 80 km from port. I don’t see how authorities could so confidently dispute something they weren’t there to see. There’s also video from the ships, but considering it was at night, I doubt it’s very illuminating. I don’t see how the authorities could already have evidence better than what the flotilla has shared, plus they also have incentive to bury the story.

I’m defaulting to believing the people opposed to the genocidal state unless I’m given compelling reason not to. I would be willing to be proven wrong, but the excuses so far are weak.

  • The funny part is that Trump has a long history of getting caught up in the moment and accidentally suggesting something the right hates. He would do something like suggest something like stricter gun control than anyone was asking for, only for conservatives to panic and remind him that they want the opposite. This is because he has no strong beliefs or principles, reading the room to throw out ideas until he finds those that stick.

  • It’s not about talking politics, but knowing that the other person doesn’t have deal breaker beliefs. Once that potential incompatibility is filtered out, then a meaningful relationship can be built.

Also, there will always be like-minded nerds who genuinely love to talk about any special interest, including politics. Your preference isn’t universal.
