Political strategy my dude. Is that a real question? You act like this is the end of the Democratic Party.

On top of the polling. That’s all they are ever going to accomplish.

You’re in a politics talking politics. Of course talking strategy is going to sound disgusting when all you want is results. Get off your high horse.
Personally, I think the only reason they did a shutdown was to show that they are fighting back. It’s literally the only thing they can do. But a shutdown is never going to result in legislative changes. It is literally a political move to make one side look worse and the other side look better.
Disgusting? Sure. Basic politics? Of course.

People on these communities do not want to hear alternative opinions. Any amount of pushing back against the community opinion is matched with this kind of treatment.
I honestly think this is the biggest reason why democrats lose so much. We can’t get progressive policies passed because we shit all over democrats that aren’t 100% on board with the far left making it so much harder for the left to control any office of government.
This is coming from a progressive person btw. I would rather we have 51 democratic senators where some of them are Manchin or Fetterman than have 40 Bernie Sanders’s in the senate and never have a majority.

If you truly believe Republicans were going to cave and vote for extending the ACA funds, then I see where your coming from.
I think it was clear that was NEVER going to happen. And if you look at government shutdowns in the past, this kind of thing never works out.
So keeping the government closed at this point only served to hurt people that were dependent on it being open.
Republicans don’t give a shit about people and they aren’t worried about losing votes, so they would gladly keep it shut and let people suffer and also watch the ACA funds expire at the same time.

As well it should be. How many parents lose 5 years of career potential because daycare would cost more than they would earn at a job?

I honestly want sure what your point was. Democrats knew they were never going to pass legislation using the government shutdown. It’s not a thing that ever happens.
My suggestion about internal polling is that they were using that to determine the ideal time to end the shutdown. They went out on top rather than giving Republicans an opportunity to gain ground. Or worse, allow republicans to justify ending the filibuster.

You do realize that politicians use internal polling to understand how effective their strategies are, right? It’s not the only thing they use, but it’s a big part of it.

My guess is they have internal polling that showed people were going to start turning against them.
Worst possible outcome is people blamed democrats and not republicans. As government shutdowns go, this is probably literally the best possible outcome for democrats.
lol. It was right there.
I don’t believe that’s organic or whole wheat.

People on here act like shutting the government down is some magic path to get anything you want.
If you look at all the previous government shutdowns the only thing that is ever really gained is one party is blamed and the other party is not. It is a political spectacle, and that’s all anybody should expect from it.
Did they get zilch? The only way to tell is by looking at polling numbers. If the democrats are seen as more popular and republican seen as less popular, then that’s literally the best case scenario from a government shutdown.

I’m talking politics here. Democrats definitely suck in many ways. But in this specific interaction, I think they’ve reached the limit on what they’re going to gain from the government shutdown.
And if you think they’ve gained nothing, well that’s about what you get from government shutdowns.

Well, I certainly disagree that they would have caved.
As for losing the judicial branch. Not sure what a government shutdown would have done there. I don’t think saving that was ever in the cards.

That makes sense. The typos didn’t help me understand…
Raising awareness is literally politics, through. Republicans aren’t going to follow laws, but they do have to worry about midterms. They can’t fully cheat to win.

I certainly don’t believe republicans were going to give in. Maybe they end the filibuster to “save america” or some bullshit.
Either way, if you believe republicans were going to cave, then it makes sense to want to keep the shutdown going.

Come on bro you know it’s true!

And you think Republicans would cave?
Personally I do not. But I could also see the end killing the filibuster. Which would have been even worse for everybody.

You know it’s true. They aren’t going to go against the party on this.
You asked about polling. It is useful for political strategy.
If you’re now talking about the shutdown, I’ve said it elsewhere, people on here had WAY too high of expectations for what is possible from a shutdown.
