  • you’re right about beef coming from bœuf, that’s because the norman conquest of britain in 1066 changed / added a lot of the vocabulary, for example lots of the words for meat are derived from old french (beef – bœuf, poultry – poule), and the words for the animal have germanic roots (cow – coo, no idea about chicken tbh), since the economic divide between farmers and aristocrats was also a linguistic divide
