like every few years they have a vote to leave Canada? Remember the 90s when they had that big ol referendum and wanted to leave but keep the money? The Quebec Sovereignty Movement? The desire that some in Quebec feel that they NEED to leave Canada to “preserve” Quebecs “unique culture and identity”?

Some in Quebec also feel they were colonized by Canada and that their language is under direct threat from the rest of the country while the rest of the country has made strides to include French in and on everything. It’s still not good enough.

Like every few years they have a vote to leave Canada ?

You mean 2 votes in 1980 and 1995, it’s not every few years

wanted to leave but keep the money ?

Baseless accusations, since the two referendum failed will never know how repaying Canada would work and since the Canada IS a colonialist power we are pretty sure that is gov will invent some fees that Quebec will have to pay. Also on this discussion many tends to forget the economic importance of the Saint-Laurent, the mineral deposits in the Quebec’s North and the port there. Major point that are at the center of the Canadian extractive empire… and without Quebec nowhere to pass the new shinny pipeline we pay to Alberta every few years 😜

NEED to leave Canada to « preserve Quebec « unique culture and identity » ?

Pretty much proving Quebecers point on this one

while the rest of the country has made strides to include French

True on paper, false on reality. There’s (in 2025) higher up in the Canadian government that are on post that require a dual understanding of the two tongues but are unable to work in French. There was a Supreme Judges in 2023 IIRC. If I gave you a mid grader French text I’m pretty sure you’ll have some difficulty to read it, however if I do the same thing with most Quebecer they have no difficulty reading in English. After the New Brunswick, Quebec is the most bilingual (for the official one) Province of the Canada.

I’m not saying we’re better or we should separate but I’m thinking that there’s a whole bunch of confirmation biais coming from our Anglo friends and not real understanding or even real try to understand

Also the next referendum will be lost so you don’t have to be angry at us for the next 40 years

the fact we had 2 referendums and they never even had a drafted plan spoke volumes

this was in fact a “we’ll leave but keep daddy’s credit card”
