    Humans used to do nothing but sleep, eat, tell stories, fix and mend things, and sleep some more during winter.
    Capitalism put an end to that.

        No. I mean the industrial revolution.
        Before that, very little economic activity or work happened during winter.
        With nothing to do in the fields, very little artificial light, usually only the kitchen being heated, and warm clothes unaffordable for most, there was little you could do.
