Situations like this raise difficult ethical questions about personal responsibility and professional duty. Ultimately, each person has to decide what aligns with their conscience.

There’s nothing difficult or complicated about it. Do you support America and it’s citizens or fucking fascists?

Ultimately if you’re part of the group pushing for the latter, I hope you get all the misery you put others through.

I really hope the message is slowly getting through that having ICE or Border Patrol on your resume from 2025 onwards is a way to guarantee you’ll never be hired at most places. If there’s even a gap in your resume and you look like a thumb, people will assume that you were working at ICE and trying to avoid admitting it.

If you were stupid enough to take the job and want out, the only way is to become a whistleblower.

So would I but you have to remember these are the kind of people who think, man if I had to stock shelves, I’d quit and get a job where I get to shoot people. And the more they shoot and hang around all the other overly testosteroned thugs, the more they enjoy the cruelty. If we had none of these guys we’d have no war.

Pretty sure ICE agents see it as they get to shoot rubber bullets and throw tear gas at people protesting racism. They aren’t being forced to do it, they’re being given permission.

That’s because law enforcement does need to exist in some form. Definitely not in its current state, but to say it needs to be abolished completely is a bad take.

I mean, unless you’re fine with innocent people dying to vigilante justice.

You’re fine with innocent people dying in state justice?

I would rather see community defence or “vigilante justice” as your propaganda frames it over the systemic global cop crime, violence, and murder. I know which one looks out for the people and it ain’t the fucking bastards.

Bro, I straight up said that the current state of law enforcement is bad, but the answer isn’t to abolish law enforcement.

And all you have to do is look at what Reddit did in response to who they thought was the Boston Marathon bomber to see why community defense is a bad idea.

To preface, I am agreeing with you and countering the person you’re replying to.

There is a difference between abolish the police and abolishing law enforcement. Like it or not, there is ALWAYS something enforcing the laws. It might be the form of mob justice, vigilantes, local militias, gangs, a sheriff, neighborhood watches, the military, or some other state-sanctioned organizations, but there is always law enforcement. That does not argue for maintaining the police, but could still say that a force existing to enforce the laws exists. Heck, I think a police force isn’t necessarily a bad idea, but that the current police force is staffed by people with a propensity for abuse, disdain for the people they are there to protect, and a willingness to escalate situations with violence at pretty much any turn.

You can argue for different forms of law enforcement, but it will always exist in some form. It’s just that citizens need far more oversight and control over it because law enforcement is power that can easily corrupt.

It would be laughably easy to fix the police problem overnight.

Make unions pay for malpractice insurance on the cops. If they fuck up too much, premiums increase and the union drops them. That takes the financial burden of lawsuits for police misconduct off of the taxpayers too.

This take makes the mistake of assuming anyone working this job is miserable about it. They LOVE to push people around to enforce how right they are about their racist ideas, and fuck everyone else for daring to question their overtly tribal amygdala, you must be one of the bad ones, and the bad ones growing number like a woke mind virus.

But that’s not how it goes. That’s just the summary, and most anyone would balk at it being put like that. Just like most of Nazi Germany would’ve balked at gassing 6mil Jews if that’s what Hitler would’ve ran his campaign on.

First they say, “Ok boys, today we’re on crowd control. It’s going to be a little crazy out there today because of the officer involved shooting but we’re just going to try and keep it professional and hope for the best.”

Of course that’s coded to hell and passive voice for “the people are agitated and we gotta show force” but there’s a reason they don’t say it like that. It’s too direct. It might cause the more liberal minded to ask uncomfortable questions where everyone else can hear, and start to doubt the mission too.

Then they’re out there. Shoulder to shoulder. Dressed the same, on the same team, with all the (justifiable) anger of a mob directed right at them. Tribalism kicks in and it’s off to the escalation races. By the time they get to the tear gas stage they’re practically congratulating each other that they haven’t shot anyone else today.

Home is where they scroll on their feeds, which reinforces everything they did that day because they don’t show the same things as mine or yours. They don’t have a minute to think.

        That’s my entire point.

They’re not people making the conscious decision to be good or evil, they’re cogs who’re constantly given positive feedback by everything around them. Asking yourself “why don’t they just…?” is a non-sequitur until you break the machine they’re in.

    They got $50,000 signing checks.

But if they quit before 5 years, they owe $10,000 for each year.

How many of them blew the $50k on a truck, or paid their CC bills with it the first week?

    Now they’re stuck there.

They aren’t even getting paid right now, several of them complained about not getting their salary in the ICE private subreddit. And if a new administration comes in and fires them, they’re on the hook for 30k and cannot declare bankruptcy to escape from the debt.

it’s hard to find specifics but last time I checked they don’t get the full $50,000 immediately. It’s something like $10k immediately, then $10k after a probationary period, then $10k a year for the next three years.

They do have feelings or thoughts, and all of them are directed about how to give themselves and ONLY themselves pleasure, or they do have them, but they don’t actually bring them up when it comes to hurting others.

There’s two types of guys who do this stuff: those who genuinely think they’re doing nothing wrong, and those who think hurting those inferior to them is good. Both are evil and lack empathy, but in different ways, one through indifference, and the other through active sadism.

A bunch of new agents aren’t getting paid at all.

But no, starting salary is like $48k. Like 4k a month. Seems to go up to the 80s. Not exactly “risk Hague trial” levels. In line with most office jobs.

I don’t interpret their response that way.

As someone who is not in a good financial place, I would never work for ICE.

However, as someone who is not in a good financial place, if I realized I was probably working for an evil empire and couldn’t change anything from the inside: I wouldn’t be able to quit because my family would starve. I’d need to find another way to provide first, and that’s not easy when you’ve got kids and debt in a bad job market.

Stocking grocery store shelves wouldn’t pay the bills. That’s fairy tale logic/something that people with means can joke about doing.

Heck yeah though, if stocking shelves paid 6 figures I’d apply immediately.

If you can’t afford to quit, use the anonymity built into the system to subvert from within. Fire high or low (as the manufacturer instructs!) to avoid harming people. Send the teargas upwind of your own guys, they’re masked anyway. Treat protesters with respect and deescalate conflicts. If you’re supposed to be rounding up random folks rather than a dangerous criminal, moonrun (a word I just coined to mean making it look like you’re putting in the effort while not going anywhere fast) to fool your new body cam while you don’t catch anyone. If you have to transport abductees, at least try to make them less uncomfortable and keep family members together. If they show you documents, believe/honor them, and don’t confiscate them.

Most of this is how the job should legally be done, it only subverts the most evil parts. If they fire you, make sure you get the cause on record, if only through email bcc’d and saved to your own computer.
