That’s not a PS/2, those didn’t come in laptop form. Maybe a Toughbook.

PS/2 refers to both a type of IBM PC, and a type of port.

Did they make a PS/2 without that port?

I dunno about that, but the port was popular in all types of machines in the late '90s and early '00s

And it’s still superior to USB for keyboards.

      It wouldn’t work, at all.

You’ve got USB to db9 serial, to db25 female, back down to db9 serial. At this point, since the chain started life as a USB to serial adapter, this should be a functional serial port.

But then, it gets converted to PS/2 mouse. Then to AT keyboard, then back to PS/2 mouse, before becoming a USB port again.

      That’s not how it works.

You see, he should have just plugged the dongle directly into the usb port on the laptop.

Do any of these adapters actually do any signal processing / transformation? I always assumed they were simply wiring crossovers. But I guess when the number of pins change there has to be an IC in there somewhere?

That first USB to db9 cable does something, the rest are glorified jumpers.

Yeah so now I’m wondering if jumpers stand a better chance of making this work, accidentally. If I had more time I’d look up all the specs and see where the wire maze lands!
