Canada said on Monday it plans to provide assistance to Cuba while the island grapples with fuel shortages after Washington moved to choke off Cuba’s oil supplies.
Why smart? The goal is to get the oppressive communist regime of cuba to collapse, how is helping them going to get them further towards this goal?
Same with the UK not letting the US use bases against Iran, why are western governments pussy footing around with awful regimes that kill their own citizens?
while historical allies such as Russia and China no longer offer unlimited financial support due to the island’s crushing public debt (108.6% of GDP) and deficit (about 17% at its peak), as well as its record of defaults on loan repayments.
Thanks for links, I asked because you came across as knowing more than I.
The Cubans I have met didn’t talk very negatively about their homeland, just that the US embargo’s cripple their country and so life is harder than what they see in rich countries, and so wanted more.
We have some subsidized enrollment in Canada too, but in a communist system its not about subsidizing a for profit system by application approval, its about providing it to all as a service.
As for cancer treaments mine was head and neck cancer (all free in Canada) but it was old medicine techniques of blast and (hopefully) recover. Cuba with non profit pharmaceutical had come up with a “cure” for it but not available in USA or Canada because of the stupid politics and restrictions.
I’m not purporting they are a utopia, but I think USA media paints a dictator regime propaganda, while doing the exact same thing themselves.
Political scientists characterize the political system of Cuba as a single-party authoritarian regime where political opposition is not permitted.[12][13][14] There are elections, but they are not considered democratic.[15][16] According to the V-Dem Democracy Indices, Cuba is the second least democratic country in Latin America.[17] Censorship of information (including limits to internet access) is extensive,[18][19][20] and independent journalism is repressed in Cuba;[21] Reporters Without Borders has characterized Cuba as one of the worst countries in the world for press freedom.[22][23]
If this is the comment you meant, then its not really a good one, you are describing the current US ADMIN.
USA has election fraud, admin arresting/prosecuting political enemies, censoring media, arresting journalists. Its all the same, US is just in control of their own PR
The goal is to get the oppressive communist regime of cuba to collapse,
And replace it with an oppressive capitalist regime willing to sell the country to American capital, don’t forget that part. We already fucking know what America bringing “democracy” means, and nobody with any decency should be cooperating with that. Clearly Canada’s goal is to not (or at least look like they won’t) let America starve Cuba to death.
why are western governments pussy footing around with awful regimes that kill their own citizens?
As opposed to western governments that kill other people’s citizens?
Don’t you know? When I kill citizens, it’s called freedom. When someone else kills citizens, it’s called tyranny.
Governments I like are called governments, governments someone else likes is called regimes.
Don’t you want to support freedom? Why are western governments so against freedom? Why is Canada playing pussyfoot with oppressive tyrannical communist regimes?
The person who thinks this post is legit doesn’t deserve an /s.
I mean, I’m just listening to Cubans themselves, they call it a regime.
One of Cuba’s most prominent former political prisoners, José Daniel Ferrer García, the founder of the opposition group Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), went into exile in Miami in October after decades of activism and multiple imprisonments.
“Most Cubans, inside and outside, want change,” he says. “But you cannot lead opposition inside Cuba because the regime jails any potential organiser immediately.”
Another exiled political dissident, Luis Leonel León, Miami-based director of the Cuban Studies Institute, argues that forced exile has always been the regime’s fix – sending generations abroad and giving rise to what he calls the “empty island”. For many, he says, hope is so diminished that even rebelling seems pointless; the best option is to leave rather than fight.
The COVID trucker convoy labeled the Liberal government as a regime. They also say the liberal government suppresses dissent and the freezing of bank accounts as totalitarian. They also say most Canadians oppose the Liberal regime and that Trudeau got fewer votes then the Conservatives.
Many such people emigrated to Mexico saying leaving is better than fighting.
Are you going to say the Liberal government is a regime?
I bet there is at least one Cuban who labels the government as the government.
“Cubans” don’t view their government as a regime. You do, then found a Cuban that agrees with you and then put their quote in bold.
You just proved my point. Government I like is called a government, government someone else likes is called regine.
If you are consistent with “regime” you’d call all governments as regimes.
Political scientists characterize the political system of Cuba as a single-party authoritarian regime where political opposition is not permitted.[12][13][14
noun a government, especially an authoritarian one
The Liberal regime froze the bank accounts of the trucker convoy protesters.
Authoritarian is subjective not objective.
It’s solely a matter if reference.
You don’t know Curtis Yarvin (ally of VP Vance) where he rightly points out that tech companies run like dictatorships not democracies. Yet we don’t opose them. Why?
nobody seriously is calling canadas government an authoritarian regime, please stop 😂
secondly because private companies are private? if you want to run a company like a democracy you can, nobody is stopping you but why would you quote a fuckstick like jd vance or his friends anyway?
Actually why are you quoting truckers and random people aligned with trump anyway? why are you so intent on making words meaningless?
what is it about cuba that you love so much? you’re canadian apparently? what is it you’re so envious of, is it the one state party you cannot criticise publicly? no freedom of the press? the crumbling infrastructure? is it the lack of a future? are you wishing you were working a job delivering pizzas just so you could earn enough money to leave?
you’re like it’s all wordplay! but this is silly, when opposition is so futile people just leave (and millions of them have) it’s obviously not just wordplay
It is all wordplay. Furthermore, there’s nothing stopping Cubans from leaving, plenty have left already. Why do they complain? Why do you want to stop a country choosing it’s style of government but not how companies are run? Why interfere in an another country’s internal affairs but keep private power sacrosanct? If private companies are private, other countries are other countries.
You and I both vote. The more time spent on this, the less time sent on actual issues.
Cuba has always been used as a bad faith argument against public services. I want public services. That is my position. What is your position? Privatisation? Same thing with healthcare. Public healthcare is tyranny but private healthcare is freedom. Public transit is tyranny and private cars is freedom. Public education is tyrannical brain washing but private education is school choice freedom.
This has always been an ideological debate, never serious.
What is it about “freedom” that you love so much? The signing of nom-competes, NDAs, Terms and Coditions, rentierism to rent forever? Physical infrastructure here is at least better here than the US (if I was in the US or UK, it’s literally crumbling) but our public services are going down the drain, do you like that? There is no future due the cost of living crisis and cost of housing, do you want to never own a home and always have increasing costs of life? Do you want a high-paying tech job (because a pizza job is not enough) to just leave the country? (https://m.youtube.com/results?sp=mAEA&search_query=leaving+canada)
Oh, well look at that. The same thing. Again, just preferences.
The truckers who left for Mexico and Miami are just as serious as the Cubans who left to Miami.
western governments pussy footing around with awful regimes that kill their own citizens [and are genocidal pedos]
FTFY. I really wouldn’t wanna live in Cuba but don’t tell me the west are the good guys.
Btw "pussy“ as an insult has become kind of weird to me, what makes you use that for something you perceive as "weak“? E.g. being bitch would serve a similar purpose but the meaning of the word seems to actually relate to what you’re trying to express no? Honestly curious.
Mossad rioters being called peaceful protestors is the warmongering narrative. Israel media proudly boasting about Mossad rioters, and Ted Cruz calling to arm the Mossad rioters more, exposes the pure demonism of the empire. This message was provided in the off chance that you are fooled by demonic agenda, instead of an active promoter of demonism.
Same with the UK not letting the US use bases against Iran, why are western governments pussy footing around with awful regimes that kill their own citizens?
but hey while we’re here:
Political scientists characterize the political system of Cuba as a single-party authoritarian regime where political opposition is not permitted.[12][13][14] There are elections, but they are not considered democratic.[15][16] According to the V-Dem Democracy Indices, Cuba is the second least democratic country in Latin America.[17] Censorship of information (including limits to internet access) is extensive,[18][19][20] and independent journalism is repressed in Cuba;[21] Reporters Without Borders has characterized Cuba as one of the worst countries in the world for press freedom.[22][23]
Oh, hell, sorry, I had no idea that the “V-Dem Democracy Index” judged that Cuba was the most evil country on earth. Yes, in that case I hope the nazi pedophile government of the united states completely cuts off all fuel, food, and medical supplies, and drops bombs as necessary, until every last man woman and child on the island has been freed. Then they can build some beautiful casinos over the rubble, like they plan to do with Gaza.
Yes. Cuba is lovely. But you’re moving goalposts again. When you decided to weirdly include Iran in all this, you included them due a massacre of 30k people. That’s a far cry from your complaints about Cuba. So why are you conflating them as though they were the same place?
Why smart? The goal is to get the oppressive communist regime of cuba to collapse, how is helping them going to get them further towards this goal?
Same with the UK not letting the US use bases against Iran, why are western governments pussy footing around with awful regimes that kill their own citizens?
Can you cite the oppression? Because I have seen you get free medical school there and they have cancer treatments other countries don’t.
But insulin is 80 CENTS! Who can afford that?
The guy support israel no wonder that he love collective punishement of cuban people
Why do I have to do all the work
By other countries do you mean America?
We also have access to free education: https://tafeqld.edu.au/courses/apply-and-enrol/subsidised-training/fee-free#courses
We also have universal healthcare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care_in_Australia
They also can’t afford it
I did here: https://aussie.zone/post/30024551/21613626

Sounds like Cubans have almost made up their mind and voted with their feet:

If you think the US is anything like cuba you guys are far more naive than I thought
USA has election fraud, admin arresting/prosecuting political enemies, censoring media, arresting journalists. Its all the same, US is just in control of their own PR
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Press_Freedom_Index
no wonder you guys love these places so much, press are gagged and can’t say anything bad about the place
Mostly my info came from people who lived there, and they weren’t overly critical. Just that Canada was a better life
The western governments, I will remind you, are run by nazi pedophiles
Canada is run by nazi pedophiles? Damn I had no idea
Australia isn’t, when you say western governments are you meaning to say the American government?
Don’t be naive

That’s not what the term “pussyfoot” means.
Interesting, thank you! not a native speaker but I guess I could have looked this up myself.
How many citizens has Canada killed recently? Is it upwards of 30,000?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_Iran_massacres
Can you point to me any recent Canadian government massacres?
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/pussyfooting
Also what makes “dick” mean being rude or “dickhead” meaning acting stupid? who knows
Israel killed st least 70k you always defended it

Wasn’t this supposed to be about Cuba? Why are you bringing Iran into it?
My comment was
but hey while we’re here:
Friends of yours?

They’re both autocratic. Iran actually has more democratic features.
In the Iran case, there’s a concern about what happens after the US blows stuff up and then leaves.
