The mayor was inside the residence at the time, the police department said later Saturday

The NYPD’s Bomb Squad confirmed that the devices thrown in the direction of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s home were both viable IEDs.

The incident is now under investigation by both the NYPD and the FBI. In total, two devices were thrown during the protests on Saturday afternoon on Manhattan’s swanky Upper East Side.

On Sunday, police spokesperson Jessica Tisch said that the “preliminary analysis of a device that was ignited and deployed at a protest yesterday has determined that it is not a hoax device or a smoke bomb.”

“It is, in fact, an improvised explosive device that could have caused serious injury or death,” Tisch added.

When the othering is due to the choices that people make, it is fundamentally different, both morally and as a question of politics, that othering people due to things outside their control.

If they want to stop being Nazis, they magically get their humanity back. And not a moment sooner.

They are not worthy of mercy or kindness because they give none to others.

What defines them being Nazis? Genuine question - what are the specific attributes that make someone lacking in humanity and therefore deserving of violence? Is death ever justified? What are the extra attributes that make someone worthy of death rather than just violence?

There’s characteristics that define Nazis and they’re similar to fascism because it’s a fascist belief. Often times extreme nationalism is a part of that, pride in one’s own people. Nazi takes that further by pride in one’s own heritage as being superior in some way.

Favors a few large businesses that support the party over others in general. There were key businesses that got near guaranteed contracts for military production because the owners were party members.

Having exclusivity in the upper ranks. You don’t just join the upper ranks, you’re inducted into it if you’re seen as loyal enough.

There’s a lot of key things that aren’t all needed or necessary for it. Someone gave the analogy of trying to define fascism as trying to nail jelly to a wall.

The answer that no one likes is that morality is very gray.

I know it when I see it.

Mostly, it is when you intend to, and succeed in oppressing and abusing others. Advocating for such doesn’t count but you should still be punched in the mouth a few times.

I’m certain that if we took the time to philosophically sort this out, we could patch up the holes.

Fair enough. A position I see a lot is “I’m anti-violence, except when it comes to Nazis” which I take issue with. But that doesn’t seem to be what you’re saying anyway.
