l experienced that feeling for a while about 15 years ago, riding one of the then very rare 29" drop bar mountain bikes.
Looked like a legit frankenbike.People turned their heads and started asking me about it out of the blue at predestrian crossings or so (a very unusual behaviour here in Germany).
With the somewhat similar looking gravelbikes becoming a thing during the recent years, the bike doesn’t stand out that much anymore, so situation is more relaxed now.
