California governor files freedom of information request after federal agents appeared at redistricting press briefing

California’s governor, Gavin Newsom, has filed a request for information from the Trump administration over border patrol agents’ appearance at a news conference he hosted on Thursday.

In a statement, Newsom said the presence of federal agents at his press briefing in Los Angeles was “intended to intimidate those defending a fair electoral process”.

Dozens of armed and masked agents descended on the Japanese American National Museum’s National Center for the Preservation of Democracy, where Newsom was announcing a redistricting plan for California, in a raid widely condemned by the governor’s fellow Democrats.

I fear we are escalating toward a civil war. I don’t see any way around it. The blue governors need to take control of the NG now and activate them for state duty.

That’s Russia’s plan. Avoiding that would be better and is still doable. Buuuut… That’s up to politicians and direct action. So it isn’t looking good.

I think you’re right. I also think one side (the not-fascists) refuse to see or understand that, and it’s starting to look a whole fucking lot like the vast majority of them are going to surrender without any real fight - legal, political, or otherwise. And yes, “otherwise” is definitely doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence.
