Because that’s what my mother claims and I’m not sure if that’s her distorted perspective, since I heard that doctors where I was from were currupt and would get paid money if they prescribe a certain medication, which is likely the reason why there is a huge distrust in medications amongst my family.
My mother keep citing anecdotal evidence, like how one of my relatives got diagsnosed with depression and refused to take medication and “they got over” their depression, and keeps telling me medication is bad.
We came from mainland China, btw.
Is this a thing in the US? Are doctors just as evil/corrupt?
I don’t know that they get paid by the pill, but they are certainly wined and dined by pill salesmen. This isn’t just a US problem.
If I was a doc, I’d probably just take them up on these freebies but not let it influence my practice or what I prescribe. Honestly it’s not like your insurance is going to cover anything but generics anyway.
You should probably be more concerned about pharma’s lobbying efforts to get their drugs approved.

Except they got wise to that so now they track what you prescribe, and the freebies come to an end if you stop paying dividends on their investment into you. Source: some documentary that I have now forgotten the name of.
