Jon Stewart torched the DNC and Democratic leadership as "lost" after learning from a candidate with a massive lead that he's heard zilch from the party.
What I don’t understand is, if booger-eating MAGA could hijack the Republican party a decade ago, why are progressive grassroots still waiting for permission from Woodstock attendants?
There was a lot of money behind the tea party and then maga takeover. Its just not there the same way for the progressive since the billionaires are all on the other side or not getting heavily involved.
I don’t mean to be insensitive but we have decentralized media, and you in the US still have a 1 person = 1 vote system. I understand that cash is important in a campaign but let’s not overstate its relevance.
Well part of the reason it’s so effective is the median voter will be easily influenced by TV commercials. Debates hardly occur, the people could demand a bit more from themselves and their representative. I am a Mainer and I just spend the last 6 months slamming Janet mills Facebook page talking to anyone who would listen about how her old ass needed to step down. You can get your own blue collar politicians too.
Yea we really need media monopoly busting and go back to fairness doctrine and fund small community media. We really need to increase civic education, we need to make voting day a national holiday. We need to do so much fundamental shit to save our democracy it feels impossible.
We don’t have a 1 person 1 vote system at all, we have an electoral college system, gerrymandered districts, I mean the republicans can’t wait to delete their political power every November. Half the country is basically held hostage by the confederates.
because the republican party is relatively united in thought and desire and via who is paying them all off.
The democratic party is more akin to 35 parties in a trenchcoat all pretending to be one party, thanks entirely to the forced nature of the two party system our government has.
And a lot of those in seats of power in the DNC and Democratic Party have the same masters/paylords as the Republicans and want the Democratic party to be nothing more than controlled opposition.
Firebrands like AOC and Bernie tend to get elected by accident, instead of by purpose, in the grand scheme.
I totally get that your two-party system is a massive detriment. Peter Magyar kind of ran on the idea to reform the political system of Hungary to make it more democratic - he focused on that rather than other policies. If first-past-the-post is the problem, then that’s what you should address.
MAGA did it from the top down. Trump became president and was able to strong arm people below him. He was even able to switch the RNC chair to a family member.

we absolutely don’t have one person, one vote. The electoral college is and always has been about racism and minority rule.
Are you fucking kidding me?
The USA is FUCKED because of Citizens United which flooded it with unlimited unaccountable cash.
Look, I’m Iranian. I can absolutely see that the USA has massive problems but the opportunities to address them are there.

Ya, its definitely not only 1 thing, but it is a big thing.
Reforming the news and not allowing these mega corps to own almost all the stations would also be a big big help.
