Luckily I’m aware mine is from arthritis in my sternum.
Unluckily, I have arthritis in my sternum.
I had no idea that was even possible!
One of my colleagues had an issue with a pectoral muscle that caused it to cramp often. He would massage it when it cramped up. Purely a physical issue with the muscle. One day he caused a minor stir in the cafeteria at a client site as he grimaced and clenched his chest. My colleagues and I had some explaining to do, since by all appearances there were three people telling a person in cardiac distress that he should just rub some tiger balm on it and suck it up, like a man.
The mild chest pain causes anxiety, which causes more chest pain, which causes more anxiety, which causes more chest pain, which causes more anxiety, and on and on until full blown panic attack and the whole time it feels like you’re dying
It’s great :)
A friend of my dads had a similar issue but it was caused by his internal defibrillator. The new ones are supposed to be better but back in the day aparently internal defibrillators kicked hard when they went off and this guy dreaded it every time which would cause him to panic until his heart rate spiked enough to set it off. He would feel his heart starting to speed up and he would start getting anxious about the defib going off which would make his heart rate spike more which would make him more anxious and that cycle would continue until the defib went off and basically hard reset him.
He took “have you tried turning it off and on again?” too seriously
And you’ve convinced yourself you’re having a heart attack.
It’s a wonderful experience.
Oh hey, been there before.
Been there too. It sucks. Luckily now I have stuff that helps me.
Is it more coffee? I think the answer is more coffee.
What’d you find?
I still havent found fuck all that helps with my chest pains.
If you apply pressure does it hurt less or more? What about when you release the pressure? Is it a specific area or a bit more radial? Does it get worse or not during or after taking a deep breath in?
I’m assuming you’ve already tried inadvisable high quantities of NSAIDs and/or seing a doctor about the issue?
With me it was generalized anxiety disorder and anxiolytics help. With me simply St. John’s Wort extract helped. There is a warning that it makes some people more sensitive to the sun though. Otherwise, you’d have to see which anxiolytics are out there that don’t cause too many side effects and don’t interact with pre-existing meds you may already take.
Problem for me is I dont have anxiety problems.
I have “Oh my fucking god, my chest is killing me” problems. Which, understandably, creates some anxiety and trepidation. Doctors/ERs/etc always want to blame anxiety for it, despite the fact that even the good IV benzos and shit do fuck all but make me not give a shit.
Glad something works for you man, I wouldnt wish this shit on anyone.
Have you checked if it comes from stress or from back strain (because this stuff can spread from the back to the chest)?
Yep.
All doctors do is shrug and say its weird but normal.
Damn. I am at a loss what it could be then.
But sometimes, it just does that for the last time
yeah but not this time… i hope
The last time it did that was not the last time. I can confirm.
Every time it has happened hasn’t been the last time, so statistically it’s guaranteed to always be nothing, right?
I plan on continuing to live forever from the day I was born, and so far, I’m on track!
Statistically, the guarantee there will be a “last time” means that every time it isn’t the “last time” your chance of the next one being the “last time” increase… So, you know, don’t freak out or anything because that increases the chances of the next time happening sooner.
There’s no actual guarantee there will be a morbid last time with random chest pains. It could be more like the last time you burned a CD; uneventful and not really noteworthy.
Technically, heart problems only kill like…
Oof looking up those stats was depressing…
Heart disease deaths as of 2022 account for only 24% of all deaths though! So your chances of death by heart problem aren’t actually super high, especially if you don’t have existing heart problems! Yay! Its probably just a panic attack! Or gas!
The share of heart attacks as a subset of all cardiovascular disease deaths is also down, but deaths from things like hypertension are way way up, relatively, so take your meds if you have them, get your exercise, eat the veggies, do the health things.
The number of times it is going happen is constantly going down.
The last time it did that, was the latest time and therefore it may have very well been the last time. Perhaps you are now finally free from its grasp. Or …you know…you die before the next one was bound to happen.
Either way a win.
Proof by induction
Treatment is typically reassurance
Translation: “Have a cup of cement and harden up.”
oh fun! a new thing i can describe to doctors and they can note down as 🤷
If it were serious, I’d know. There’s no reason to get everyone worried over literally nothing. It barely even stopped beating.
Floating up towards a white light and seeing your ancestors is a common symptom of gas
Chest pain kicks in: Oh fuck today’s the day, aaarrrrgh–
Chest pain subsides: Oh. Well then. finishes my Monster and gets back to work
“Angine de Poitrine” do be like that.
I love that they named their band after chest pain. Lmfao
I have two herniated discs in my neck which replicate the symptoms of a heart attack. I’m told it’s superficial. 🤷
Why are you so superficial?
This happens for me because of trapped gas. Try getting up, doing some stretches.
I think this is sometimes the cause for me too.
I would get on a regular antacid and see if that helps. As I age my acid reflux has been morphing into gerd and the generalized chest pain is random and terrifying but solvable with some tums.
Been me for the last few days tbh. It feels like I’m on the cusp of having a panic attack, but it doesn’t come full on.
Just so happened to have a dr appointment the other day already lined up and everything checked out ok so idk. It just does that sometimes I guess lol
It’s called precordial catch syndrome.
https://piefed.ca/post/649770It’s not just one thing.
Moods can affect the heart directly.
Even heart defects can be felt decades before they get serious.
Or could be something from the sound spine that feels like it’s from the chest?
Feeling a mix of the last two in my cranky panky
Costochondritis acting up means it’s about to rain
