Going based on thirst is a good indicator,

After many visits for my daughter with different doctors, all of which were different specializations, the consistent advice from all of them was “going by thirst” is absolutely wrong.

They each said if you wait to be thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

You should drink whenever you want to, or are mentally thirsty. That being said, after many years of being a child in school (water fountains tasted like drinking chalk), i had to train myself to feel thirsty again without being dehydrated. Probably a safer bet to just go by pee color or have a cup or two of water at dinner/during exercise.

So what are you supposed to do, have a recurring alarm clock every hour?
