In Germany when working in construction and you get explicitly told to do something in a way that you know will lead to problems you make them sign of on your objections. It sounds tedious but it is worth it. So many bullshit decisions that would cost you or in the best case can be influenced by being very clear in your stance.
That’s not just Germany, that’s how professional engineering works in the US as well. Make the engineer put their seal on it, and if anything happens, they’re the ones who lose their license (or even go to prison depending on how bad)
