I think a lot of that conservatism simply shows that they were always an awful person.
Like, when you’re young and you have no money, if you’re a greedy fuck, then you’re a progressive. “I want other people to give me money.”
But when you’re old and you have already made your money, and you’re still a greedy fuck, then you’re a conservative. “I don’t want to give my money to other people.”
You don’t really care about politics. You just care about yourself and your money.
I think sometimes people forget that, even if you’re on the good team, you’ll almost certainly have a lot of bad people on your team.
That would explain the rightwing shift that some people go through in their very old age.
Maybe conservatism is just an early sign of dementia or other kinds of brain damage.
