simpsons did it first
I’m out of the loop. Who is she and what’s the context?
Random person who painted eyes on her eyes lids, so she could sleep
That kid is going to mess up somebody’s psychology study in the future.

And then her eyes open and the baby starts screaming.
Kid in therapy 20 years later. “I feel like she’s always watching, with those dead, shark eyes”
Like a doll’s eyes.
This is why humans evolved that “uncanny valley” sense - to realise when your mother is pulling a fast one over you.
That kid’s uncanny valley reflex in overdrive.
30 years later explaining your mannequin fetish to the therapist:
She’s gonna grow up and be a serial killer
Grow up and have panic attacks when people blink and their eyes disappear.
Poor lady, she shouldn’t have to do that.
It is clear she has her skill from painting miniatures
It’s a joke and I get it, but that period can be so taxing that moms fall asleep and then roll into their child, suffocating them. It’s devastating. Yes, baby will want to be held but you can train them over time. Don’t give up.
Unless they have colic, in which case just try to get everyone through that 9 months alive
Not true, where do you have your info from? Pretty much everyone I know including myself has co-slept with their babies. I’ve never heard of a single problem with that, not from them and not in the news. However, if it gets taxing to the point of passing out, have the dead and some aunties step in and let the mom take time off!
Edit: no, you should not let the dead care for your baby! Maybe ask the dad first.
Oh, well if you didn’t personally experience it I’m sure it’s fine! Those stupid scientists with their…studying the observed causes of death of infants are just stupid boring losers, right? Are they even mothers?
No idea why you get so heavily downvoted. We did the same, the midwife was also okay and we even did a first aid training for babies, where suffocation in bed was a topic, but that’s due to the blanked, not the parent.
I also just checked the statistics. Out of all suffocation deaths only 2.8% were because of someone else rolling over the baby. I believe most of the parents were intoxicated. So the real death rate by suffocation due to a parent rolling over them is super slim.
Someone posted a link from 2013, so some of this info is outdated. Some of it might be different approaches in different cultures and countries. And people just love being right, don’t they, and they love getting angry when it’s for the ‘protection of children’. Especially when they think the opponent is a ‘dirty hippie’ following any kind of non-mainstream woo-woo ideas. I’m just sorry for their kids. A baby is a small mammal and their sense of safety directly derives from closeness with the caretaker. Babies who feel safe are more likely to turn into adults who feel safe.
True, I can see that with other parents on the playground, how they treat their kids. At the same time, I also got treated like that and I still turned out okay I believe. But my goals are definitely different, as I do everything for my kids, constantly consume books or even go yo in-person trainings/courses, just so that I can create a good environment for them and give them everything they need to be successful in life.
I agree. Unless we’re drugged, we’re far more aware of our surroundings when asleep than most people realize. It’s very unlikely that an undrugged person would roll over onto a baby and suffocate it.
Are you unconscious when you sleep?
The short answerNo, you are not unconscious when you sleep. You are in a state of reduced consciousness that is fundamentally different from medical unconsciousness. A review in Nature Reviews Neuroscience described sleep as a “reversible behavioral state of perceptual disengagement from the environment.” That is a critical distinction: you are disengaged, not disconnected.
Your brain can still process external stimuli during sleep. A parent wakes to their baby’s cry but sleeps through louder ambient noise. You respond to your own name spoken softly but ignore a stranger’s name at the same volume. These selective responses are impossible in true unconsciousness.
When I took a parenting class with my wife almost a decade ago, I remember it from there.
2 seconds of Google searching turned this up
You do you but not everyone has support
Ms Brown said that the baby had fallen asleep on top of the covers in between the parents and possibly got tangled as he reached for the bottle as the father fell asleep in the process of feeding him.
The blanket is the issue.
Also CDC links to this.
Not sure I’d let the dead cosleep with my baby
Western theory says co-sleeping is the most evil thing since the devil.
This is done to ensure maximum pain for parents.
Crying strengthens the lungs! /s
I believe in most Western countries these theories are outdated by now. Nobody criticized my cosleeping in the early 2000s, it was already debunked as a cause of SIDS. Maybe that’s different in the US?
It’s done to sell shit like cribs, blackout curtains, noise machines, pacifiers, etc, and to get mothers back to work sooner
Yeah. No one wants to sleep next to a snoring thing anyways /s
(It is the best thing ever, believe me)
I know!!!
Don’t sleep with babies in the bed. Fyi
That’s why i usually sleep with my kid on the hard cold floor
Don’t do that either.
What if they are already dead?
That’s just a midnight snack.
It’s okay. Don’t let your babies sleep alone.
Um, it’s not OK. Babies die all the time from that. I get that this is a meme and it’s funny. Just giving an FYI.
They can sleep in their own bed in the same room.
