A shaken Martini breaks down the ice and dilutes the drink, making it the perfect alcohol for MI6

The same James Bond who enters a woman’s shower uninvited for sexual activity immediately after she discloses that she is a victim of child sex trafficking and statutory rape. Yeah this guy definitely isn’t picking up on cues or norms.

This is an important distinction. The other one is that Ian Fleming purposefully wrote Bond as someone who was not at all well versed in etiquette so he just did whatever seemed like he knew his stuff so that Monte Carlo snobs wouldn’t notice he was a dirt poor orphan.

Yeah, the drink order is something pretentious sounding while being a fairly normal drink. It’s all about the con with Bond.

Edit: Eggsy’s drink in Kingsman serves the same purpose while simultaneously being more pretentious, more a normal drink, and absolutely making fun of Bond.

Maybe he was the alcohol equivalent of an audiophile: utterly convinced his gold-plated HDMI cables made a noticeable difference.

I thought it was found to likely be ice crystal related.

Shaking chips tiny bits of ice off, that our tongue can detect for a while, until they melt. Stirring doesn’t create these.
