Oh? You purchased a stream cleaner back in 2001? Well, here’s steam cleaner recommendations for the next 14 years, just in case you’re collecting them like infinity stones…

Long ago, I remember being so impressed by Netflix’s algorithm. It used to know me so well, I was astounded. Recommendations were spot-on for my tastes, and I could trust it would pick things I’d actually enjoy.

But then something changed. I don’t really know what, though I think it’s fair to assume “corporate meddling” was the root reason, no matter what the exact change was. It all fell apart. Recommendations stopped making sense. It felt like someone smart was losing their mind and there was nothing I could do about it.

I’ve long since stopped using Netflix (or any other streaming service.🏴‍☠️) It’s almost hard to believe how good it used to be. Just as Google used to actually be a useful search engine, it’s so clear that these companies reached a peak, then started going downhill.

Basically the reason I dont use algorithm based sites, I dont know why but it annoys me. It’s the main reason I stopped using Instagram years ago when they stopped using chronological order. It basically killed engagement with people I knew and killed the reason I used it

Facebook has been notorious for making changes that the users didn’t ask for. Once upon a time, posts from friends used to dominate our feeds. Then, one day, it changed to prioritize group posts. I remember ranting about it, pointing out that the only reason I used Facebook was to keep in touch with friends, so I want to see posts from friends. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Anyway, long story short, I haven’t used Facebook in years.

I love it when I watch one video debunking some conspiracy theory only to get flooded by conspiracy theory crazies’ videos (though I guess it makes blocking them convenient).

I only recently realized that ad-block doesn’t work in private tabs. I wanted to watch a video somebody linked here on Lemmy, but not have it impact what YouTube tries to show me, so I opened in a private tab. Two unskippable ads right at the start. Yeah, no, sorry, guess I’m just plain not watching that video then.

    Two things.

First: frogs are cool. I want more of them.

Second: I’ll have you all notice that, while wenesday comes once every week, there isn’t to my knowledge a single frog-dedicated community in the whole threadiverse.
I’ve tried to make one once but after only two posts and a few hours it show signs of becoming popular and I chicken of it in the fear of having to moderate.
