The moment a man learns a skill that isn’t cutting the grass or moving heavy objects, this happens. Gender norms are ruining our country.
I was only ever around people my age in a suburb of a major city. Then I traveled to the major city and lived there. I never witnessed women caring at all about gender norms until I got thrown into the rural part of the state because of life circumstances. The towns being smaller I met people outside of my age group more frequently. Millennial single women in a rural area seem to hold men to an arbitrary standard more than millennials in urban sprawl.
It’s like this with most aspects of life in my new environment though… not just gender norms. My point being I think it’s rural America that’s ruining our country, and the solution needs to be one that includes not making a chunk of the electorate feel ostracized while also moving forward in a way that abandons traditional thinking they hold dear. That’s not easily done and almost feels like a fools game.
It’s simply a matter of exposure. And culture for sure, but exposure really helps to get used to shit being different and not freak out about it so much.
By definition, you’ll get exposed to much more shit when living in a big city, especially when it’s culturally diverse and you yourself make the effort of not living in a cultural bubble.
“How did you realise you hated your boyfriend”. We’re just going to treat that like a normal thing to say?

I had a girlfriend who always had a new favourite word and she would cramp it into every possible and sometimes impossible sentrnce possible. I didn’t hate her because of it and it wasn’t why we broke up, but talking to her and thinking: “oh no, so this is gonna be the word of the month” was not fun
