1·13 days agoeven if you consider moving the goal posts to include capital gains, most working class, earning far below the mean, as median income in the us lags the mean significantly, most investments are tax deferred accounts covered under legislation already.
you’ve moved the goalposts to “taxing unrealized gains” by billionaires to evade the essential truth that tax margins are out of whack.
then you only continue to “discuss” that far off goalpost. you are a troll.

2·14 days agobezos takes a smallish salary, I don’t care about that myth, or them, or unrealized gains. we need to rebalance the tax system. if unrealized gains are really such a loophole, then tax borrowing against it. This would hurt small borrowers too. so what?
the rich man loan problem is a red herring. if we ever rebalanced the system, there would also be political will to close loopholes. thus tax code can be directed at large borrowers or some other solution. your response is the “oh it is hopeless so don’t consider it” crap brought up on reddit every time this subject comes up.

9·15 days agoyeah, loans and hising income.overseas, stuff like that. guarantee 5% for the irs budget and regulate them to track down income tax schemes.
there would be some struggle, but things would level out after a couple of decades, and head towards real prosperity.
of course the idea is rough, you’d want narrow margins, and the ability shift it if there aren’t enough high earners, and to apply the same scheme to corps too. all sorts of edges cases and fail points to consider.

21·15 days agosimple solution, tax rate goes up by margins based on the standard deviation from the last year’s income mean. for income more than one standard deviation above the mean, your tax rate for that margin is the percentile rank of your income compared to the last year’s incomes. something like that would be fair. then mandate certain percentages be spent on education, welfare, etc. anything left over in the budget from the last year gets split evenly among all taxpayers.
High stakes indignation, the highest possible. People with real problems don’t get that high.
nspawn ftw. I tried avoiding systemd until I found out how much scripting it saved me. the more I use it, the more I like it.

politics @lemmy.world•Retired cop jailed for 37 days over Charlie Kirk meme sues, saying his First Amendment rights were violated
11·29 days agoYou’re square in sovereign citizen “logic” territory. States can’t secede, because that usurps federal authority. Seceding because of slavery, explicity admitted by almost all seceding states, means causing a war over slavery. A kindergartner could get it. All the gobbledygook you write to the contrary is plainly, factually, irrelevant, like a sovereign citizen’s dream, ideas so compelling you just can’t let go.

21·29 days agoWow, the articles of secession stating slavery as the reason are not evidence. You have an echo chamber in your own head. Saying the fed disn’t get involved because of slavery is like saying a murderer wasn’t sought for murder, but because their victim didn’t respect them. The causal chain to slavery is clear.

31·29 days agoNo, states rights to slavery. Why try to whitewash it? That’s myopic, and dogwhistling in support of slavery.
Well they apparently have people you can pay to whisper such in your ear.

31·29 days agoBut it isn’t. It is right on point. Even the secession articles say it out loud. The fight was over slavery.
Look, failing at selling video games people want to buy, is like failing at selling porn, or running a casino full of machines that tabulate a set amount of winnings before giving back a predetermined amount.
Doing nothing is sometimes the smartest way to make money.

41·29 days agoNaw, the meme holds: “increasing hostility on the part of the non-slaveholding States to the institution of slavery, has led to a disregard of their obligations, and the laws of the General Government have ceased to effect the objects of the Constitution. The States of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa, have enacted laws which either nullify the Acts of Congress or render useless any attempt to execute them. In many of these States the fugitive is discharged from service or labor claimed, and in none of them has the State Government complied with the stipulation made in the Constitution”.
south caronlina seceded because of state’s rights to slavery. Almost all articles of secession had the same language. Have some history.
