The movie glorified him and his death. It isn’t portrayed as needless or reckless. His death in the movie is framed as being a spiritual awakening, him finally leaving the material world behind and achieving enlightenment and that dying that way is something to aspire to. It was a dumb movie with hot people in places with exceptional natural beauty with a sloppy message which itself undercuts for mass appeal.

You did, pretty succinctly. Profit is financial profit, that’s it’s definition. I think you mean a benefit which may or may not be profitable. Social services are beneficial to society, not always profitable.

Not everything in society needs to be profitable. Elder care is extremely unprofitable to society, they’ve already provided all the profit they can, now they’re just an expense on society. So why don’t we just drop them off in the middle of nowhere and let the animals eat them like a dying farm cat? It actually works out better because their kids can inherit the parents wealth without the parents using all that money to live through their retirement. The kids can take it the moment their parents are retired and immediately invest it. It’s way better for the economy because you won’t have a retirement investment that slowly dwindles until it’s gone. It’s a sudden infusion of cash that will pay way more dividends over time.

Not only that, they’ll get a public bailout because they’re “Too big to fail.” Like literally why are we paying taxes when we know that our tax dollars will just be handed over to the billionaires because they just keep breaking everything?

Acting like not voting at all would fix anything is a huge part of the problem. Yeah the Democrats not going to do anything, but you know what that means, the Democrats won’t do anything. They won’t embarass America on the world stage every day, they won’t fund the Gestapo to assault minorities and they won’t threaten allies with invasion.

Sure the Democrats suck, the whole damn system sucks but it’s a whole lot better for a whole lot of people when the Republicans are not in charge.

Let’s go back to the way way long ago, January 2025. When King Don was crowned the second time he declared that diversity equality and inclusion (DEI) were dead. He and his court demanded that Universities be reserved for their kids and stop DEI, so their kids wouldn’t have to sit in class with a black or brown and have their kids learn about empathy. King Don said that any institution which says they’re not ditching DEI is a terrorist organization and won’t receive federal funds. This scared a lot schools into doing what King Don wanted, but a few didn’t and one of those schools is Harvard. Now King Don and his MAGA followers are angry because this school is fighting back, so they’ve decided to stop going to Harvard. Except they were never getting in so who cares?

While I agree in principle, in practice policies like that end up backfiring. In this case the Nazi’s have taken over responsibility for enforcing the anti-nazi laws and wouldn’t you know it, the actual victims are the Nazi’s gosh darn it. It’s the anti-fascists who are the real fascist by preventing the fascist from the right to express their facism.

It’s like when your brother finally gives up drugs. You don’t forgive or forget all the terrible stuff that they’ve done, but you welcome the person you knew before the drugs back. At least what’s left of them. MTG doesn’t deserve forgiveness but she deserves respect for admitting that she was wrong and walked back. It wasn’t her idea to do any of this and I’m sure if things went differently she’d still be by his side but an ally is better than an enemy.

And yet, when offered to vote for someone who supports single payer healthcare they’ll still vote Republican.

And everyone of them will say to you completely honestly, “it’s a freer America than if I had voted for a Democrat.”

At this point it’s tribalism. Anyone who still supports Trump and the Republicans will always support them. Being Republican is part of their identity, it’s the identity they share with their family, friends and coworkers. It’s the identity of their community. They’re not going to walk away from all that just because one irresponsible ICE agent killed one guy in a democratic city. They can’t, they’d be walking away from everything they’ve known. Like their football team, they’ll cheer their team on no matter what because it’s their team. Simple as that.
