Considering his connections to Peter Thiel I’m not so sure about that. But what matters is that he won’t be able to wield the cult of personality that has formed around Trump the way Trump can.
He’s very unlikable though imo. He doesn’t have the charisma trump has (not genuine charisma, but like an arrogant bullying charisma that MAGA is attracted to). Hopefully this alone would work against him.
To be fair, though, Trump is deeply unlikable for many people. I’ve had almost a physical reaction to hearing him speak or seeing him since his debates against Hillary. He’s always seemed gross and slimy to me.
In other words, just because you and I see JD as unlikable doesn’t mean that MAGA will also find him unlikable. In fact, Vance’s approval rating among republicans is 89% favorable while among democrats it is 3% favorable as of the beginning of August.
This, this, this! Trump attracts people in a unique way, the same way that Hitler attracted people. Vance doesn’t have that charisma. His ascension would fracture the party. There’s folks who are willing to buck him, not Trump. It is the best shot we have at normalcy.
I hope you are right, but I don’t know MAGA won’t latch onto a new cult of personality just as easily. The right wing info bubble is a well oiled consent machine and they know how to push the right cultural buttons. Vance is better spoken and has gained a lot of MAGA love under Trump. I worry if Trump dies before he erodes his support too far, it will solidify MAGA under a better equipped leader.
I see people keep saying this but why does it even matter anymore? They already have the power, they already tested camps, they already have troops deployed, he can do what he wants and still control the narrative like they are now
People keep saying MAGA falls apart when Trump dies, but what I’m not seeing is what people think all these supporters will do? Surely we’re not thinking they’ll suddenly deconvert until reasonable people or even what used to be Republicans.
If we’re really honest, this is what the Republican party has been building up to for decades. I’m trying to see the optimism that they’ll just go back in the box but I’m just not seeing it
I’m not optimistic about them “going back in the box” as it were but that fracture into competing factions will allow more reasonable leaders to get it. Kinda how Bernie was winning before moderates unified behind Biden but sorta in reverse.
Trump won the R primary in 2016 and 2024 because the others didn’t unify.
I don’t think they’ll deconvert. I do hope they will become apathetic without their “charismatic” leader. I don’t think Vance will be able to hold people’s attention as well or rile them up to the same degree.
Side note: Calling Trump “charismatic” makes me want to vomit, but apparently he is for some people…
JD also doesn’t have as much of the crazy vote. Some people find trump charismatic, and find he can do no wrong, while JD chaises that charisma while lounging on the couch like a Lay-z-boy.
Does anybody still remember that short moment just before the last election when it looked like Trump wouldn’t run?
They were all at each others throats in an instant. It was a sight to behold. So yeah, finding someone who binds both his constituency and his underlings in the same way Trump does could be impossible.
Whole lotta lazy low-info dumbasses voted for Taco because he had that game show, too. People more aware knew who and what Taco was since at least the 80s, but the low-info? Not so much. They really do think that the broke-ass, self-promoting dumbfuck failson was a bigly important businessman instead of the low-life fraud who was thirsty to be accepted by the Manhattan elite his entire grifting life. Of course this same exact kind of lazy thinking leads to them thinking a businessman would be good to lead a democratic country, and I don’t know which makes me want to face-palm harder…
Not sure if there are any cons in the running that had that kind of boost from the “liberal media” where a failed “businessman” was given a game show to host and launch into the national spotlight…
I don’t discount that argument, but my hope/expectation is without the base and therefore without undying tacit support from congress, the threat posed by Vance isn’t as much as a live Trump.
JD is Peter Thiel’s errand boy and Thiel wants to collapse of nation states and social programs. His goal is corporate network states with the rich living completely removed from regulations on their power in any way. JD Vance may not be as erratic but he is just as dangerous.
One thing I’ve learned since 2020: Mango Mussolini has laid the groundwork for potentially much worse successors. More coherent. Not sure JD is it, but it could happen.
Honestly I hope MM will survive the collapse of his country. In my mind it’s a better scenario than someone taking over who actually knows how to do the bidding of his tech-bro neoliberal fascist puppeteers.
He’s a puppet, but he can’t build the groundswell of support that Trump can.
There’s a very short list of dictators who successfully transition the government to their choosen successor and have them stay in the long run. It’s North Korea, and not a lot else.
Fingers crossed! JD will not be as batshit. He wants to keep the job and not get bounced from the top spot next election.
Considering his connections to Peter Thiel I’m not so sure about that. But what matters is that he won’t be able to wield the cult of personality that has formed around Trump the way Trump can.
Exactly.
JD is scary due to the thiel connection.
He’s very unlikable though imo. He doesn’t have the charisma trump has (not genuine charisma, but like an arrogant bullying charisma that MAGA is attracted to). Hopefully this alone would work against him.
He basically radiates the Jeb Bush please clap awkwardness at all times.

Yeah well he also doesn’t have the full responsibility of this admins actions either.
Once he’s the lightning rod for this unpopular crap he’ll have nowhere to hide.

Even if that’s true, it only means the slow and steady decline of the country instead of the rapid spiral.
JD also doesn’t have as much of the crazy vote. Some people find trump charismatic, and find he can do no wrong, while JD chaises that charisma while lounging on the couch like a Lay-z-boy.
I don’t think MAGA holds Vance in the cult-likenregard they hold trump.
It’s the chairisma
This is sofa king perfect.

He’s still batshit, just in a better-tailored suit.
The good news is the MAGA crowd don’t have fanatical loyalty to him.
What?
JD and his wife were groomed to be the Republican version of the Clinton’s…
They were literally set up by the “Tiger Mom” who’s an ivy league law professor, then the wife was given SC clerkships.
They are 1000x more dangerous than trump, in no small part because they won’t be as blatant.
I don’t discount that argument, but my hope/expectation is without the base and therefore without undying tacit support from congress, the threat posed by Vance isn’t as much as a live Trump.
A puppet cannot have qualities such as being more or less batshit.
Do not mistake the intelligence of the puppeteer as belonging to the homunculus itself.
JD is Peter Thiel’s errand boy and Thiel wants to collapse of nation states and social programs. His goal is corporate network states with the rich living completely removed from regulations on their power in any way. JD Vance may not be as erratic but he is just as dangerous.

Ahahahahaha! You guys are fukt. JD is a bigger puppet than Strumpf. And a whole lot less likeable if that’s at all possible?!
This is… funny to you?
I’m laughing at the absurd hope JD will be better. That’s hilarious!
Someone who says ‘Strumpf’ is clearly not a serious person.
He’s a puppet, but he can’t build the groundswell of support that Trump can.
