Donald Trump was booed by fans at the 2025 U.S. Open Sunday in New York. ABC aired the crowd reaction after the USTA requested media partners censor 'disruptions.'
while more impactful, that takes more prep time and work. there is a magic to booing. it is uncontrollable, unstoppable, and requires no thought. it gives everyone a free space in which to enter into a grand vocalization of “we stand for what you do not.” there is no real way to boo performatively. there is too little room for interpretation within the reverberations of the crowd.
if you do not like booing the 47th president of the united states, i recommend digging into what the problem with the act is, and consider that there’s many routes to resistance. for me, i don’t like booing the president because the president is meant to be a spectacle. it doesn’t matter if you love or hate him. it matters that you feel strongly. the argument i can hear is that you want to increase another kind of spectacle to give the people something to engage in. me, i want to remove him from all spectacle he engages in from my life and focus on community engagement. there is likely valor to both.
but please. consider that better than throwing things at him, giving him the spectacle he thrives in, might be when he appears at an event you are at, that means you don’t care about the org that let him in in the first place anymore. get up out of your seat, and make your way to the exit, never to return again.
That’s a good post, but it’s wasted here. On Lemmy, any actual action is always disparaged. The only acceptable response to fascism is to sit home furiously wanking about what you’d totally do if only you had an army of meat shields to protect you from the consequences.
Yet basically all dictators have been harsh on even the lightest of protests, since if you allow it, the protests will grow until you can’t deal with it.
Public protests like these are highly useful to fight against Mr. Trump.
I don’t think the ‘weird’ thing was really about masculinity. Conservatives value conformity, which is why they mock expressiveness like dyed hair; they think they are the default, and so being called weird and the insult sticking because they are fucking weird really hits them where it hurts
Nobody seemed interested in hitting reactionaries in the money. Biden kept dumping cash into the pockets of Musk, Thiel, Zuck, Bezos, and Pichai. Neither do Hochul or Newsom. Dems have the power to hit fascism where it hurts, but they’re too terrified of losing access to the Infinite Tech Sector Money Machine.
Which of Trump’s attacks on the US have been effectively mitigated or prevented by booing? Best I can tell, he doesn’t give a single flying fuck about it.
Partly its about reminding his supporters and the neutrals that the people who actively dislike him really do exist. One of their talking points around election fraud/denialism is the idea that there just aren’t enough voters against Trump to justify the votes, because that’s what they’re told.
Granted, they’re also told that people like these booers are all paid actors. Paid by whom, and how do they keep anyone from blabbing about these arrangements?
Anyway, every person who gets splintered off from the Trump Train is a win, so push every way you can.
The problem with it is the fact he reacts like all bullies do: he’ll have a temper-tantrum and do more despicable things even harder than before as an analog to stomping his feet in anger.
Tame but effective, imagine if everywhere you went and everything you did there was a crowd booing you.
I’d much rather it be a giant crowding shouting “child rapist” while throwing anything they could get their hands on at him.

I mean, I personally wouldn’t ask people to throw guns at him.
What’s in the gun, however…
That’s why puttin sits in bunker most of the time.
Can’t be as bad as MAGA actively destroying everything I’ve ever held dear about this country
And now imagine you have narcissistic personality disorder and it hits so much harder
Imagine if you’re the dictator of the wealthiest and most powerful nation in human history.
A few boos from folks in the cheap seats seems like a small price to pay when you can feast on the townsfolk every night with abandon.

Just look how effective calling them weird was.
Oh yeah, keep attacking their masculinity, that is one of their biggest weakpoints.

Conservatives mock dyed hair??
Ronald Reagan has entered the chat…
They mock expressively colorfully dyed hair; blue, green, etc.
Again, look at Reagan.
He was older than Trump is now, and no one questioned his hair.
Where it hurts is the money.

what does weird have to do with masculinity?
You may be assuming some executive function (delayed gratification) that is missing from the observed behaviour.
I don’t hear many boos. Just a crowd.
Some days, that’s an appealing hobby.
I’d deport them.
how the fuck is it effective if it literally doesn’t accomplish anything aside from a headline which doesn’t accomplishanything.
Demoralizing the enemy is always a worthwhile goal.
yeah its working really fucking well.
Everybody knows that you give up after the first try.
what kind of dumbass thinks this is the “first try”.
