You are probably right. But from personal experience with both of the people who admitted they were wrong, the huge dose of humble pie they ate to ever admit to me, that’s takes real effort. One sees it in his pocketbook. He may forget. The other sees it after a solid dozen of his employees have been deported after ice raids. He’s hurting in his pocketbook and in the personal relationships he has built with his employees.
To be fair I’ve told these people that all farmers should be voting dem across the board, quite militantly, for years now. But guns and “Jesus” made them think I was a madman. I know and understand who’s blood and sweat our tiny world is built on,and finally they are starting to understand it. I hope it is a lesson that sticks. I’ll be doing my damned best to make sure it does.
These are people that have fallen for propaganda. Decades of it. They aren’t bad. They are just stupid for not paying attention. We can fix that. Call it out but please don’t forget your empathy. I’m having a hard enough time as it is.
Reminds me of the idiom, “things have to get worse before they’ll get better” – one could say these people are suffering from an addiction to right wing ideology and from the perspective empathy is the wrong choice until they choose and remain on the path to face and overcome their addiction.
I think that’s analogy can make the line clear for those who suggest we do anything that would enable working class republican’s political behavior.
As a guy who grew up in farmland, still have family friends out there, I honestly am just tired of it all man and have gone full Robot Chicken Batman v Superman.
Sorry but after hearing 30 years of handouts vs helping hand, listening to them moan about crop insurance, literally a social safety net, being too expensive and not getting them to connect the dots that climate instability is ruining your crops, I mean how the hell do you have so many bad years of winter wheat all of the sudden, and hearing “you’re one of the good ones”, no dude I’m your average American as are all of the others you complain about with inaccurate alternative facts.
I’m just kind of all out of F’s to give. I just nod and say hi when I see people for the most part when I go home and just shake my head.
