I don’t know why you think this, but the Constitution explicitly requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate to vote for conviction.
Article I, section 3, clause 6:
Because cloture rules (which can be amended with majority vote whenever they want and ignored) also applies to conviction for some reason (according to .gov website). A mistake, as admitted by me immediately. That’s why I thought that.
no see they could have voted a simple majority to overrule that and the supreme court’s obvious and inevitable overturning of said rhetorical hypothetical ruling.
