Everything about this is tragic. I really hope the majority discourse around this in Canada can handle it with empathy and not get swept up in US-style culture wars about it.
and not get swept up in US-style culture wars about it.
There’s already far too much uninformed speculation (and associated bullshit claims) about the shooter and their gender identity based on the awkward wording in some of the early reporting.
It’s heartbreaking to hear about this. Sincerely hope that the families have the support they need, and my heart goes out to everyone impacted.
Holy crap. This is shocking.
Heart goes out to all the families involved. This is awful news.
An attempt to destabilise Canada.
Sounds like a school shooting not related to destabilizing Canada?
Probably not a deliberate effort on the part of foreign actors or domestic terrorists, but I question whether this would have happened without examples from the US. Remember, the last school shooting of any sort in Canada was the Ecole Polytechnique—which took place before the likely perpetrator here was born.
So I looked into it, last Canadian school shooting with mass casualties was 2016. We are not infallible.
