We all hope best for the people of Iran. If this turned out surprisingly well, I still couldn’t give credit to the criminal US administration, as this is gambling with other people lives. I’d still be happy.

Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely this will turn out well.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they do manage to install some US friendly stooge but I also won’t be surprised when said stooge gets executed on national television in 18 months.

I think I’m starting to realize something fucked up about us. What if he’s who we really are deep down? What if this is just what America is and it’s not just him? And that’s why nothing actually gets rid of him.

I’m not an American exceptionalist. I don’t think there’s anything extraordinarily broken about Americans that isn’t present elsewhere.

You can take that optimistically (“We don’t have to continue this pattern, just change our circumstances”) or pessimistically (“Oh, so that’s why there’s so much backsliding towards far-right parties worldwide”)

At the end of the day, it legitimately doesn’t matter whether it turns out ‘well’ or not, because pretty indisputably, it’s going to turn out worse than if we had not done it.

International relations aren’t some fucking game (angry in general, not at you) where it’s as simple as win or lose, like these fuckwits are playing at. If these cretins somehow (and against their own authoritarian natures) installed a legitimately democratic and stable government over Iran when the dust all settles, that will not be an improvement over the Iranian people doing so themselves; and such a result is not possible unless the Iranian people are ready to do it.

The government would end up struggling with issues of perceived legitimacy, diplomatic prejudices from real or imagined obligations to Israel and the USA, and the enduring issue of the massive human and material costs of a foreign invasion, no matter how well-executed (and considering the opening salvo has killed some 85 children, I’m not fucking optimistic about the competency with which it will be executed).

More likely, these fuckwits are going to try, if they ‘succeed’, to install a repressive puppet government that acts in their interests instead of the interests of the current ruling class.
