    McCarthyism to the tenth power

The main job of a conservative influencer is to come up with new ways of saying, “I think we should do the Holocaust” that are palatable to suburbanites.

McCarthy’s rampage was about rooting out traitors. The new McCarthyites want to destroy their political adversaries.

Why whitewash McCarthy in an article about how white supremacists want to bring back McCarthy?

What we need is REVERSE McCarthyism, and purge MAGA from our government and our society, prosecute their leaders for their CRIMES, and prohibit it from existing.

Full rollback. Every Trump appointee. Every executive order. Every piece of legislation. Every decision by the corrupted Supreme Court. And lock all of those fuckers away for life.

THAT’S what I’ve been saying. He STOLE the 2024 election, right in front of our faces. That makes his administration entirely INVALID.

Roll back EVERYTHING, including his pardons. ALL those J6 Traitors go right back to prison to serve out their sentences, and anyone who doesn’t show up, will be considered escaped, hunted down, and 10 years added on.

Considering McCarthyism was an attempt to stop Russian influence on America, I’m not sure how they think that would go when basically their whole leadership structure is utterly compromised.

What a shit take. That’s like saying, “I don’t know how the Church thinks the Inquisition will go when they’ve deviated so far from Jesus’ teachings themselves,” or “I don’t know how Hitler thinks gassing the Jews will work when he has Jewish ancestors himself.”

It doesn’t fucking matter. They can pick whatever label they like, communist, heretic, immigrant, Jew, whatever, and apply it to whoever they feel like and not apply it to whoever they don’t feel like. You are an absolute rube if you think this sort of “gotcha” will slow them down in any way, you’re literally accepting their framing by doing that.

By ‘McCarthyism’ I think they mean ‘witch hunt’. Eradicating ‘Trump Derangment Syndrome’ or some such bullshit.

I want the 5 minutes back that I spent skimming over an article that was meant to showcase someone’s research on McCarthy and history around the 1950’s.

For that matter, maybe we stop platforming the dumb takes from social media influencers, people who have absolutely no power other than careers in saying inflammatory bullshit hoping a major outlet will pick it up and get more people angry. This attention-bait economy is thrusting actual clowns and nazis right into the seat of power because we live in a world where if you say something atrocious and enough people hear it, you get money or even seats in government.

I think we ended up with an incentive structure where people are lucratively compensated for fully batshit-insane takes that drive engagement, and this moves the Overton window to normalize what used-to-be a batshit take.

I also think it’s worth investigating those incentives and burning them to the ground and salting the soil beneath them

How dare you care about people having problems you aren’t currently experiencing. You should be locked up for that. Don’t worry about the people being locked up. Those are problems good citizens aren’t currently experiencing.

Everything they accuse the left of is a confession with the RWAs.

Also, I remember when Ann Coulter wrote some book about how McCarthy really wasn’t soooo bad you guyz!

    Huh, wonder why.

What exactly McCarthyism for our times looks like is still in flux. Loomer declined to elaborate when I asked. In my conversations with Bannon, he was enthusiastic about bringing McCarthy into the modern political moment, but vague about the details. Posobiec, though he declined to talk, has been a little more precise. In the 2024 book, Unhumans, he and his co-author, Joshua Lisec, wrote that renewing McCarthyism would mean employing the “humiliation tactic” of “naming and shaming” leftists, and a return to the blacklists of the Red Scare.

This is just more reactionary purity spiral nonsense from people who are paid way too much to invent hyper-inflammatory political sophistry. Ironically, protected speech like this would not be possible in the oppressive government they lazily describe.

    They should watch more TNG.

I’ve not finished the book yet, but it is wild.

They see Communists everywhere. And the Communists (because cultural Marxism is a real thing, and progressives == leftists == Democrats == socialists == liberals == Communists. They are ALL EXACTLY THE SAME. Don’t question it, LOL. Everything to the left of Rush Limbaugh is just famously unified, you guys, everyone knows this.) are coming for your STUFF!

    It’s what they do.

^ By the way, I heard Noem say what sounded an awful like this refrain when she was whining about one of the people questioning her about things like her bang plane. I’m thinking she has read the book.

Yeah but back then there was actually a respectably sized Communist movement in the US. Not so much now

Membership of the CPUSA peaked in the late 1940s, with over 75,000 members in 1947.[5] But their influence spanned beyond just their membership as some candidates in national elections garnered over 100,000 votes.

Apparently there were about 143.7 million people in the United States at the time.

Anyway, in all of my life, I’ve only met one person (IRL) that admitted they were a capital-C Communist.

I’ve only met one person (IRL) that admitted they were a capital-C Communist.

I’ve met a few. Most were old and narrowminded Stalinists and Trots, except for some elderly Wobblies I knew. They weren’t just rehashing the Russian revolution, they were engaged in modern politics. Clever old bastards, and hard as nails. But that’s a different kind of commie. Rare birds, those.

Well, there were a couple youngish self-identified Maoists I knew too, back in the early 70s, but they were poseurs. One was even a trust-fund brat. I remember teasing him about his soft hands and how badly he’d fare in a reeducation camp.

What McCarthy really hated was the New Deal. And he really wanted some totalitarian repression in the US. And let’s not forget the lineage: McCarthy to Roy Cohn to Donald Rottenbrain Trumplgrueber.
