Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s cellphone records took centre stage as the provincial legislature resumed sitting Monday for the first time since December, with the opposition accusing the premier of having something to hide.
One of the many pieces of legislation the government has signalled it will introduce during the spring sitting is a bill to exempt records of the premier, cabinet ministers, their staff and parliamentary assistants from disclosure under freedom-of-information laws.
Ford, who has often boasted about his government’s transparency, said it just follows what other provinces have already done.
“We should have moved a lot quicker on this,” Ford said during question period.
“There are two groups that are concerned about it. The opposition — they should talk to their federal partners — and the media. Everyone else is focused on something else. They’re focused on the economy, about jobs, fighting President Trump.”
Of course he has something to hide. He was caught on video offering to open up the Greenbelt to the Vaughan Canadesi, then he backtracked and said he would not touch the Greenbelt if elected, then he opened it up.
The Canadesi had $230M in land suddenly worth over $8B. Coincidence!
It was all done on blackberry burners.
But whatever, hicks will elect him for life.
Such flagrant corruption. It’s amazing we’ve made it this far when wining an election is just a license to commit crimes.

It’s always interesting hearing from journalists that come to Canada from the US. They’re surprised at how secretive our politicians and bureaucrats are, and how we let them get away with hiding as much as they can.
Here’s hoping there’s some public backlash against this.
As if Americans actually hold their politicians to account.
Shitting on the US is fine, but it doesn’t change the fact that we’re terrible at transparency. Meanwhile, Ontario reelected Ford, so it’s not as if we have a moral high ground.
